The writers fought 24/7 against the FCC and the Parents Television Council for their right to be as offensive as possible, to absolutely everyone possible, and that's the only real merit they had.

Family Guy has never been revolutionary or edgy. It's always been firmly in line with mainstream Hollywood thinking and never has gone against it.
The icing on top is not too long ago they made an entire episode about Brian getting cancelled and how people are too sensitive nowadays.
