Why do we need a general? Why is this story such a big deal when King did City of Bane, and Snyder did Endgame and Zero Year? At this point its becoming a meme that every Batman writer has a "Gotham being overrun by villains! Chaos in the streets!". That's not even counting the Arkham War that happened during Forever Evil

During Forever Evil the Crime Syndicate took over the planet and rallied Earth's villains as their own private army, the Arkham inmates were divided into two factions and fought for turf in Gotham. Scarecrow led one side, and Bane the other. It was a shitshow. Then DC did Year of the Villain where Apex Lex was handing out gifts to all the villains and this happened during City of Bane.

You know if Tynion had given any other justification for the Joker's invasion other than THIS IS IT I WILL KILL BATMAN FOREVER NO MORE JOKES I would have bought it. Shit, why not have him wage a war on the city just to vex batman? Bruce started this run escalating, remaking the city and operating on a massive scale so that no other villain can do what Bane did. If the Joker showed him the holes in his new security system, how pointless it all is, just to laugh at him as he always does, I think it would be a better justification to destroy Gotham AGAIN. Have him be self aware.

This is too smart for Tynion but what if all of this is to get things "back to basics"? Joker had to go against his nature to pull this off, which means he must really want things to change. I don't buy the "I'm done playing with Batman" bit at all, I think this is his attempt to return Gotham to a simpler time. Frankly he's bored, he wants Batman to do old school again.

As much as I enjoyed parts of wat of jokes and riddles, I agree with Nygma in it where not every story is about Bats. Which is what kinda ruined it for me it wasnt Joker vs Riddler Crime divided it was batman bitches and whines and we dont get to see the inner workings of these villans

So how does Joker achieve this? Perhaps the real goal wasn't to kill Batman or take his money for himself, but to burn through all of Bruce's cash just to set him back to Year One. Wealthy, still has the company, but he'll need years to get back to the level of security he had prior.
Or am I being too hopeful here?
