It varies but these days that spot is probably Iron Man or Deadpool. Back in the 90s-00s I would've traded out Iron Man for Wolverine.

60s - FF
70s/80s - Hulk
80s/90s - X-men
00s - Wolverine
10s - Avengers

Interesting question. There was a time when I would have said Wolverine, but I'm pretty sure that's not true anymore. Deadpool maybe? Or Punisher? The traditional guys -- Cap, Iron Man, Hulk, don't seem to be right.

Iron Man because of the MCU.
If we're talking just comics it's probably Deadpool given his publicity. He's pushed everywhere.
Punisher? Maybe among certain subcultures but not in the greater public consciousness.

>Punisher
Really? I don't see it desu. Especially nowadays with the MCU. I've always viewed him as a tier below the A-listers.

If you bring in the MCU, then it's arguable if Spidey is on top. It would be either Iron Man or Captain America.

he's pretty well-known tho

Iron Man has probably overtaken Spider-Man at this point.

Yeah, but not on the same level as Hulk and Wolverine pre-MCU, or Iron Man, Cap and Thor post-MCU.

He really hasn't

Fuck no.

Used to be Wolverine, now it's Iron Man.

I feel like any character who can only manage a monthly instead of a biweekly is automatically excluded from the running

Spot on answer

Captain america

Lol

Just behind Iron Man, I'm sure, which is a feat in itself considering he has "America" in his name.

If we're talking individually then I'd say Wolvie gets the 90s as well since he was the most popular X-Man during that period.

True, but the other X-men still enjoyed a respectable amount of fandom. It's sorta like how Ironman is the clear cut popular Avenger but the others are still pretty popular in their own right. It wasn't until around the movies and Wolverine appearing on every fucking team during the 2000s Wolvie cannibalized all the other X-men characters.

It's probably Deadpool, but his audience is so broad now I'm sure a lot of his fans don't even think about the comics

After that, it's probably Iron Man or Captain America currently, because of the Avengers

Followed by the other major Avengers and then some of the X-Men

It's really been dictated by the non-comic mediums for the last few decades, so it's gonna be whatever film/show is most popular at the time you ask. The only real exception is Spidey, since even with the breaks between movies/shows he's still constantly everywhere. No idea why he's the one to stand out to all generations though, but I guess it's the same with Batman.

You're also gonna have that one Batman fan who's going to claim that Batman is the most popular Marvel Hero, despite him obviously not being Marvel, because 'Batman is already so popular, he even wins against other comic companies!'

>It's probably Deadpool
It definitely isn't Deadpool

Wolverine

It's debatable, he has a lot of casual appeal because of "lel s0 whacki XD" and gratuitous violence and cursing.

ur mom lol

But he's not a household name like some of the others.

I can adjoin to this with of anecdotal evidence. My mom is totally clueless on pop culture. Whenever I bring up a superhero name, these are the ones she knows exactly who I'm talking about.

Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Spidey
Ironman
Captain America

How is it not Gambit, Machine Man, or The Whizzer?

Wolverine or Cap, depending on who you ask.

Venom and Gambit used to be up there.

Yeah that sounds about right.

That reminds didn't Ghost Rider used to be a big deal back in the days, to the point that he was one of the first to get a movie out.
