Mission Hill might be coming back

I suppose focusing on the gay couple would be the ticket to getting it green-lit these days.
I'll take gays done right instead of gays done only for views and pandering.
Same
Im okay with that. They were still the best written gay characters in animation history.
Though, im also of the philosophy that good things should stay dead, since it will just get ruined with a revival.
Very much this. I'm not entirely sure Gus & Wally can pull off a series by themselves, so i'm hoping most of the original cast returns as well (even if different VAs are needed).
This could work very well as a gay guy version of "Bob's Burgers" in the Mission Hill world. Whatever the case, I'm happy to have more Mission Hill.
I don't know how this would work. The show is such a product of its time that trying update it for present day would strip a lot of what made it work, and trying to recapture that late 90's zeitgeist 20 years later would feel artificial.
FUUUUUUUCK YEAH!
Indeed.
Just inject it directly into my veins
Yeah, I'm skeptical and worried as well.
This show started just before I entered high school, and stopped before I graduated. So much has happened culturally since then, that I dont know the show's spirit can be brought back.
Mission Hill will undoubtedly be better off dead if all they plan on doing is putting a show together on the back of twitterisms and social media trends, and draping the skin of Mission Hill over it. Gus and/or Wally will be completely ruined if they go the clueless route of turning either one or both of them into fanatical activist types, or decide to turn them into mouths for social media pop shit.

Honestly, the show captured things that we know of as Hipster culture today about 10 or so years early. Maybe its because they knew it before it was mainstream, joke intended, but I’m struggling to come up with anything that isn’t still relevant.
i dont really want a gus and wally spinoff
That's the problem with this. Mission Hill isn't just a show that takes place in 1999, it's a show about 1999. There really isn't any way to do this without either making it feel cheap or just turning it into a completely different show altogether.
The trick is to not update it for the present day.
But then you're stuck with trying to recapture the spirit of the era that it was meant to satirize, which is not as easy as it might seem.
Nostalgia. People are longing to return to an era like 1999. Keep it set there.
>Day Of The Jackass
>Premise is the main character doesn't care about whatever sociopolitical crisis is happening right now
Making that episode today would get you fucking lynched. "Silence is siding with the oppressors" and all that shit.
So? Making something good is almost never easy.
This. It's going to feel artificial as fuck.
>6 months after the original series
>not just finishing up the episodes you already had

This show was pre-hipster, but helped define what hipsters would set out to soullessly copy. It was about a millennial watching and glorifying GenXers meandering through their lives in the city. Comfortable mediocrity set against the backdrop of a charming caricature of a mid size city.
Then the 2001 crash happened, and ruined the possibilities this show enshrined, and then the 2008 crash finished off whatever was left.
That’s disappointing on one hand, but on the other hand Gus and Wally were great, so maybe it’ll still be good without an obnoxious soapbox.
I’m not shocked though, being gay or black centric is the only way to get a show greenlit now.
Not to mention the lack of cel animation will severely hurt the feel of the show.
Nice hitler numbers, fascist
NO. NO MONKEY PAW. I LIKE THIS SHOW AS IT WAS, PLEASE DONT POLLUTE MY GOODWILL TOWARDS IT.
kinda hilarious now that it's such a period piece
>oh man you know who is a great gay couple? these two guys from mission hill they're so based
>Ok we'll make a show where they're the main characters
>NOOOOOOOOOO I LIKED THEM BECAUSE THEY'RE EASY TO IGNORE OUTSIDE OF THIS ONE SCREENSHOT I CAN USE TO VIRTUE SIGNAL ON Zig Forums I DON'T WANT TO ACTUALLY SEE MORE GAYS I HATE GAYS NOOOOOO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
The point of that episode was it was all over the place. It wasn’t just some form of racial call for justice, it was also a bit of natural disaster, a bit celebrity bullshit, a bit solidarity with a suffering individual, a bit political clusterfuck, a bit national tragedy.
It was every kind of “serious thing all anyone can talk about at the water cooler” thing all at once. Shit people born after 1990 are only aware of if they make the connection between a Simpsons episode plot and a real event or see it on a documentary.
But wait.... neither Nick Jameson (Gus) or Tom Kenny (Wally) are gay! They can't voice the characters anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty sure gay community leaders would speak out in favor of it, given its the most positive that gay male characters have been represented on TV.
