I miss the days when anime was mocked. Does everyone really have to reference their favorite Japanese cartoon every single time they create something?
I miss the days when anime was mocked...
>dragonball OR naruto
so, not quite as literally ripped huh
Anime isn't mainstream and is still mocked. Go try to talk to your coworkers about anime, you will most certainly get a weird look and awkward silence.
Blame millennials for being so fucking obsessed with it.
What changed? Obviously all those utterly cancerous LOL SO IRONIC WEABOO Twitch streamers played a part, particularly with zoomers, but I'm assuming there's a lot more.
I can't get into anime cause often times the writing and dialogue just seem off. Maybe it's a culture thing, maybe it's just plain shit I can't say for certain but it's very on the nose and to much monologuing over the obvious.
But so is most American animation nowadays and at least with anime you get cool action and cute girls.
It's definitely become more acceptable than it was a decade ago, but it's true that there's definitely still a stigma for being "the anime guy".
Not our fault the west all became beanhead CalArts garbage
yes it is
>You don't like my chinese children's cartoons therefore you're racist and xenophobic!
People actually think like this?
>Does everyone really have to reference their favorite Japanese cartoon every single time they create something?
most people who went on to make cartoons nowadays grew up on that normie-to-mid-tier anime. you'll see references to sailor moon or inuyasha, maybe even Utena or or evangelion because that's what they watched as kids, but you're not gonna see references to really deep end anime. you're not gonna see shit like "how can my little brother's armpits be so goddamn juicy" nowhere
A lot of athletes, actors, and musicians openly like anime, even if it is the more mainstream stuff like OPM.
Most shitty seasonal anime has objectively awful animation compared to even some bean mouth calarts stuff and that's a fact. Japanese people don't know what lip sync is
I mean the part about bad writing, bad character acting and choppy animation is still correct. So the question is, why do western animators not see these as a flaw anymore?
as someone who uses twitter, yes
the world has become overly sensitive over everything that if something offends one person, it's a problem for everyone
Does this fucking zoomer not know about the early 2000's anime trend? Why do retards spam twitter screenshots on Zig Forums?
Yes, I do in fact remember that and it's better than what we have now.
>bad writing
>bad character animation
>choppy, cheap animation
All of this is true of the majority of anime because it is made for profit and no other reason, nothing to do with racism. Why are weebs in denial?
Why you so retarded user? The older generation was always gonna be against anime (unless it made money) because xenophobia was beignet during their generation, and japan was a axis power and unlike now, people actually cared about that back then. Anime is always been better because it doesn’t fall into the three categories of family movie, kids show, or honey mooners rip off. The kids that watched it growing up are now working in the industry. That’s literally it, shit I’d you look back you’ll find old school animator pissed that people in the 90’s were referencing comics. Every generation is pissy about the next
>why do western animators not see these as a flaw anymore?
Because westerners also do this and pull it off worse.
>Anime is always been better
Go back.
Finally, a quality post in this thread.
>Doesn’t fall into the three categories of family movie, kids show, or honey mooners rip off.
Yeah, it's either Shoujo, Shonen or Magical Girl.
Anime has and still is better than modern American animation.
>Who would win?
>Walt Disney or one Japanese Disney Fanboy?
Spoilers: It's the Disney Fanboy, Osamu Tezuka
Touche, but then you have American manga, aka """""WEBCOMICS"""" which come in three flavors: SJW, Furry lemon, and deviantart trash
You’re legit retarded and showing you don’t know what you’re talking about. You can think anime is shit, but don’t be a lying faggot about it
>All of this is true of the majority of anime because it is made for profit and no other reason
Ever notice how people only ever talk about the same handful of animes over and over again? It's beside the vast majority of anime is fucking dogshit and those are the outliers.
lol the weeb is seething
Ironically the outliers of American animation are still utter dogshit lol. Is Zig Forums seriously saying CalArts trash is better than anime?
>Is Zig Forums seriously saying CalArts trash is better than anime?
Yes, unironically.
>Go try to talk to your coworkers about anime, you will most certainly get a weird look and awkward silence.
Only from the white ones.
I talk with my black and Asian coworkers about anime and manga all the time.
Hell, we even got together with some guys on the tech side and watched KnY when the first season first started airing.
Subbed of course, only white guys watch dubs.
This guy had a good point up until he said anime wasn't popular because of subconsious xenophobia or racism.
What a fucking moron. Kung Fu films were pretty popular in the west and they were far more foreign than any anime ever was.
This so much. I'm a bit on the young side, but anime was NEVER this talked about or accepted how it is now. It's insane. DBZ and naruto were considered nerd shit. Now they're considered normie tier, along with OPM and AOT.
Now you can see jojo memes get millions of views by westerner, or it be performed in live theaters and get applauded.
This. Fucking kim kardashian, the queen of shitty normie tastes for women, actually posted a hentai-looking picture of Zero-Two from Darling in the Franxx and said she always loved anime. Unreal when you actually think about it.
I'd expect that maybe from a few celebrities on DBZ and naruto, but not a thot commenting on a borderline ecchi mecha series.
Fuck, my autism is showing again.
Anime was actually more popular 10 years ago.
>if you don't think anime is the bestest you rayciss
Oh god, fuck off.
There's like 200 anime and manga released a year so of course there's something different but all the popular shit is either Powerlevel Shoujo crap or cute girls doing cute things, usually in a school or band.
Even the hot new thing Beaststars, which looked neato and different, I decided to read the manga and it devolves from social-commentary character study and romance to typical shoujo action with the third arc already feeling like a retread of the second one pacing wise and the rabbit character barely appearing anymore and not really doing much beyond that thing Legoshi has to keep saving from weirdo's.
I think people forget that 10 years ago was 2010, not the late 90s. Anime was definitely popular then, albeit less popular than it was in the early 2000’s and present day
Not scientifically possible.
The internet usage has pretty much quadrupled. More people than ever are going to get more interested in anime.
It may not be the "sparkly new craze" it was back in 2001-2004, but it definitely has a much larger base nowadays.
Ehhh I like dub, but that’s most because I like to eat while watching tv and don’t want to have to read, watch, and shovel foot in my mouth at the same time. Plus I like playing on my phone during it too
Beastars even has absurd, bullshit power-ups that come out of nowhere, just like a generic shonen.
>scientifically
Don't use words you don't know the meaning of.
>The internet usage has pretty much quadrupled. More people than ever are going to get more interested in anime.
Doubled. Your reasoning doesn't show causality. People just watched anime on TV 10 years ago. And 20 years ago. And 30 years ago.
Oh boy it's the hourly "Zig Forums is butthurt about anime" thread again!
You're posting on an anime website user.
>People mocking anime and manga in this thread for being "cringy and for manchildren"
>when their passions are fucking cartoons and comicbooks
Teapot, Kettle, yada yada.
Ha-ha, yeah, remember when anime was heavily MOCKED in the industry and nobody took any influence or inspiration from it?
>Teen Titans
>Hi Hi Puffy
>Xiaolin Showdown
>Jackie Chan Adventures
>Invader ZIM
>Robotboy
>Megas XLE
>Sym-Bionic Titan
>Avatar
>All the references in Dexter's Lab and PPG
>Pokemon being so powerful it killed WBKids
Not like nowadays, where modern-day showrunners are TRUE fucking fans because they rip-off entire scenes, characters, and plots and then call it a "homage".
