I heard that the Samurai Jack Complete Series Blu Ray cropped the Season 2 episode Jack and The Spartans from 4:3 to 16:9. Can anyone confirm this?

That doesn’t fix the issue. The episode is hard coded to be in 16:9, when it should be 4:3. Changing the aspect ratio setting on the TV would just squish the picture

It was originally made to be in 4:3 but they cropped it to make it look more like 300

I'll drag out my set if I really have to but the version on HBO Max is clearly 4:3 and HD and this is the first time I'm ever hearing of it being cropped and do not remember that being the case when I watched the BD 2 years ago
Also, the original DVD encoding is garbage (even disregarding the resolution difference), there is no reason to pick them over the Blu-rays

It's 4:3 for about a minute after the intro where nothing happens. The rest of the episode is widescreen with baked-in black bars.

It's not in 16:9, they just added letterboxes after the intro. The episode was made like that, it's intentional, and it's always been like this.

The show occasionally changes into the widescreen format during action scenes to better frame the action. Jack And The Spartans is notorious for being the only episode where almost the entire episode is widescreen.
