Seriously why is manga/anime suddenly getting so fucking popular in the US nowadays and why cant American comics/cartoons push them back at all anymore? Whats actually happened? I mean, in 2010 or 2011, everyone was saying that Japanese media gets old and westerners cant enjoy it anymore.

Son, we've got a lot of explaining to do

The Japanese have a diverse market of ideas and story lines most of which don't place a political agenda over their narratives. Also helps that most manga tend to have a set narrative with a beginning middle and end which make them far easier to get into when compared to American comics which have been rebooted so many times that a first time reader has no idea of where to begin.

Western media is trash and has really nosedived in the last 5 years, so people look for something that isn't as bad.

>why cant American comics/cartoons push them back at all anymore?
Because Americans and the West in general are more interested in inclusion and political correctness that by the time you've ticked off all the diversity boxes, the cartoon budget has been spent.

It's so bad that some anime creators don't want to import to the West out of fear their work will be censored to hell.

Anime is nowhere near the popularity of western animation in the US

Anime was always popular.
The problem is that Zig Forums has been overrun by every other board EXCEPT Zig Forums content.

you're like 20 years late dumbass

>I mean, in 2010 or 2011, everyone was saying that Japanese media gets old and westerners cant enjoy it anymore.
Nobody said that, except for your increasingly desperate western capeshit boomers.
Also western comics have absolutely stagnated in the same time period. It's all the same tired old capeshit zomibes being paraded around, now some of them are gay, some got aids. Whatever, it's still lame old batman, even if he's black, gay and got aids. Just get authors to create their own standalone series again, like in the 80s and 90s and retire all that sickening capeshit, or let them run as legacy series. But as it stands in japan publishers publish author created comics and in the US corporations commissions writers, pencillers, inkers, colorists and letterers to make a disjointed frankenstein re-heat of decades old characters.

>nowadays
2001 called

American cartoons and comics are absolute trash for the most part. Have you seen majority of the current cartoons? Literally nothing but a sea of CalArts. Its need a lot more variety instead of using the same boring animation style. And as for comics, it became too social-political and nothing but a mouth piece of the writer on whatever issues the writer feels is important and the want to address. Telling interesting and interactive stories in comics is a thing of the past.

theres less of a hurdle when it comes to mainstream manga.
Mainstream comics tend have this habit of changing authors, settings, characters can not know eachother in ome issue and the best of friends the next, it cam be quite daunting when theres several decades worth of content for multiple characters all under the same banner.

>in the US
U mean in the whole world...
>nowadays
Soulless Waifus. No great stories or anything, just copy-paste waifubait shitty animes. Mostly Isekai, slice of life, or shounen. While actually good animes (like Tonegawa) usually just live in the shadow.
Zig Forums has so much more great stuff nowadays btw.

The anime and manga industry has actually improved over the years. Plus, anime and manga are to Japan as movies and live-action TV are to the West.

>NO Woke
>No Feminist
>Good art styles.
>ONE Story.
>No Reboots.
>Somewhat original plots.
>Being entertaining.

Comic books are the same old shit. Reusing the same villains and remakes of heros and Villains and doing nothing new. And never leaving a character dead. And Multiverse bullshit just for damage control.

So far Ladybug is the only good action superhero show that isn't MHA that has buzz.

west is catering to faggots and little girls, anime is catering to faggots and little girls but also has big titties and violence.

Action/adventure cartoons in the West are completely and utterly dead and anime helps fill in that void for a lot of people.

They don't have to deal with black people constantly asking for more representation and complaining on social media if they don't get it. Can create and use whatever characters they want instead of being forced to use a specific character due to tokenism.

Comics are too superhero centric thanks to the monopoly. Manga offers A LOT more variety because JUMP isn't nearly as dominant in the manga scene as DC and Marvel are for comics.

Western animation is killing it with comedic series, there's no comedic series from japan that does well overseas. Of course comedy is the only genre left out in east vs west threads

Because Anime is cheaper for the publisher to sell then it is for them to create their own Comics/Cartoons
The hard part is already done, Story, Art, Animation. All they have to do is pay the Voice Actors and Translators.
The only real challenge is purchasing the license that allows them to air/sell the anime/comic.
Doesn't help that for the last two decades, they've been a drought of good cartoon/comics and even the most popular cartoons are now taking lessons from anime.

>They don't have to deal with black people constantly asking for more representation and complaining on social media if they don't get it.
Instead, they have to deal with otaku, especially the rabid kinds; I mean, just ask KyoAni.

>Good art styles.
>Somewhat original plots.

pic unrelated

>but also has big titties and violence.
*yawn*
Do we really have to keep using a few OVAs and late nighters as examples of the whole industry?

This is true, the problem is that what getd popular is entry level WSJ battle shounen though which is as formulaic and milked beyond its lifespan as it gets.

>Plus, anime and manga are to Japan as movies and live-action TV are to the West.
No they aren't. Even in nipland most anime is only meant for degenerates. The only exception is kiddy shit like pokemon or doraemon and even those hardly have an audience anymore. Normal people in Japan mostly watch jewtube or those cringey game shows.

I dont think anime/manga was so popular 10 years ago. Westerners were more into FPS games or dudebro stuff like that. Anime was mocked everywhere like"Anime is gay"

>suddenly
It's been popular for at least 30 years now you gay retard.

The same pseudo-commie ivory tower hyper-political quixotic morons who have ruined so much other American entertainment over the years (music, film, television) decided to get into animation. Japan has no interest in political grandstanding, they just want to pursue what's profitable. So the end result is one side being swamped by "creatives" who actually got their job from nepotism or leftyfag political cliques, and the other half is a samey soulless conveyor belt of whatever has been making money recently.

I guess even boredom is a preferable alternative to insufferable liberal soapboxing.

Otakus cant force the author to change something or introduce a specific character though. Unlike here, they don't hold that much power compare to blacks and white women.

Pretty much every genre but comedy translates well between other cultures. Comedy from other countries has a bigger barrier of entry so it's not translated or picked up as frequently as action or slice of life.

>Even in nipland most anime is only meant for degenerates
Blatant lying. Come the fuck on.

Anime is literally just fan service. Same story over and over so you don't have to stress over the outcome, big titties for you to salivate over, ten billion episodes and games and manga chapters and figurines. Volume, and fan service, it's the perfect fit for drooling morons with no taste and just enough free income

What's with all the retards lately that act like anime only just got big within the last decade? In the 2000s there were literally dozens of TV networks with anime blocks and the 90s saw several anime series reach massive mainstream appeal, notably Sailor Moon, DBZ, and Pokemon.

They make a better product by far and have for decades.

>Also helps that most manga tend to have a set narrative with a beginning middle and end which make them far easier to get into when compared to American comics which have been rebooted so many times that a first time reader has no idea of where to begin.

I don't think that's the issue, western comics and cartoons are usually stuck on saturday morning episodic mode, and they always, always return to the same roles of hero/villain defending a static city or town. Meanwhile most manga for the same age range stick to the archetype of travelling in an adventure or being part of a contest or tournament or whatever, which makes for more solid stories, but can't be watched out of order.

>election tourist's in charge of noticing media trends the thread
somehow you completely missed the whole trend of pseudo anime and animes distribution in the west over 20 years ago.

Attached: 1593163832734.png (650x800, 15.48K)

>"election tourists"
>election was four years ago

Attached: 1582734960186.png (445x335, 188.5K)

Are you talking about anime or capeshit comics? Oh wait, capeshit can't even have tits in it anymore

Yes.
Election tourist is a derogatory term for people who came to Zig Forums during the election with the sole purpose of discussing it here.

And there still worthless fucking tourists, funny how that works.

Yeah and retards love tits more than any kind of good storytelling

anime hits the teenage demographic MUCH harder than american animation right now, that's literally the only reason. American animation completely misses that demographic rn.

That was individual anime's that where marketed as cartoons, kids wouldn't have put it or Dexter's lab in a separate category. These days being an anime fan is extremely common

Not as pozzed

>with a new one coming this November...

That's not really an issue anymore either. Most people aren't tied to catching a show when it airs with streaming.
And psuedoanime happened 20 years ago.

So this is basically an Zig Forums thread now, right?

Attached: meruem.jpg (512x512, 36.02K)

sour grapes

Yeah I hate when tourists vacation to my country for four years straight. Thank goodness for that wall they're building.

Picture unrelated, right?

Netflix

I just can't get into western comics as much because every character has multiple versions, artists, continuities, writers and it gets frustrating. With manga I can just start at issue 1. I've got comic friends giving me recommendations for particular runs but if you don't I can see why someone would gravitate towards manga for the simplicity and variety.

>Anime is literally just fan service.
You are literally a piece of shit.

The vast majority television, movies, comics, cartoons, and anime; they don't even try to pretend to be anything other than pandering garbage. I guess the difference is that anime isn't subtle about the fact that it's usually aimed at younger audiences and filled with cliches you like calling out.

This has nothing to do with the shows that are actually good.

Ok culture warrior.

Attached: 1590629010029.png (1015x1528, 141.91K)

Yeah. I love TF, it was not that good.

>Zig Forums has so much more great stuff nowadays btw.
Come on, that was true about 10-20 years ago

Attached: 1592410410008.jpg (317x284, 24.11K)

Japan can still make media for the sole purpose of something to enjoy. Western media is a landmine.

Some idiot is complaining about tits in anime but female anime characters have far more appeal to women than any modern western female characters

It's true though. A majority of anime air late at night. A timeslot which you'll only ever have time to watch if you're a no life NEET.

So what's Zig Forums favorite anime?

Attack on Titan is a masterpiece

White liberals literally ruining everything enjoyable.

> can't meme

The capeshit movies have made superhero comics and cartoons irrelevant. And there is practically nothing else in American comics
