Thoughts on Spitting Image?
Too many people
Dishonored 3 is looking weird.
We never got it in the U.S. except for maybe a video or two being shown on Night Flight, or Radio 1990.
We had it in Canada, was great
The running gag with Reagan's dog was great
kek
I liked the Invisible Man song
Recently found out that there's a iranian version of Spitting Image called "Shabake Nim".
It's literally just Spitting Image but with iranian politics instead. They even do parody music: youtube.com
They had one in France too. Forget the name but they made an Assassin’s creed puppet for a one off joke about Italian politics

Regan and Soviet Union bits were the best.
What the fuck. Do they have the original Spitting Image guys making the puppets for them?
Iran allows satire?
Arguing about nothing is the real religion of the Middle East
We had it Down here too
We had that one Phil Collins music video though
Making too many problems
They actually made a special specifically for the US market but NBC lost interest in it, broke it up into two half hour episodes, and gave them a midsummer Time Slot of Death.

It only took 18 years but Faggot Scrotefeeled finally came out.
NO, THERE'S NEVER BEEN A NICE SOUTH AFRICAN
AND THAT'S NOT BLOODY SURPRISING, MUN
BECAUSE WE'RE A BUNCH OF TALENTLESS MURDERERS
WHO SMELL LIKE STINKY BABOONS
Probably could never be done as viciously as they did back then today because of advertiser pressure and threat of being sued. ITV used to protect them hard because they had such good ratings. New version sounds awful even with the creators on board. Especially since one of the biggest parts of the 80's/90's version being successful was they had people with contacts in news and governments writing the show so they could insert legitimate bits of news they heard like Prince Andrew being a nonce under the radar under the guise of satire. Thatcher was infamously pissed off about it not just because it was brutal satirizing her, but small, private things the writers worked into the script that were leaked by sources to the writers that showed up every week.
It was supposedly burred because they went hardcore into mocking Regan's Alzheimers (Which had been leaked to the writers by sources) and advertisers flipped due to Regan's popularity which is why NBC "Lost interest" in it as they didn't want to be seen speculating the president had brain problems even when it's true.
I really like this show despite not understanding the politics. Even if you don't understand the politics, its still fucking funny either way.
everything I know about it is from the Genesis video
The show politicised a nation in it's day, people who didn't care about politics knew who minor cabinet ministers where because of their depictions on Spitting Image, it's amazing what good satire could do, and we've been sorely lacking it for years.
Norman Tebbit was in the news last week, and I still picture him as Thatcher's thuggish enforcer, in a leather jacket, sticking hands in blenders.
It's pretty meh outside a few banger songs and one or two decent jokes. (and even those are a bit worse once you realize they're just longstanding ethnic hatreds being rationalized by supposed woke alt-comedy lefties like the anti-Boer stuff)
Became a lot worse as it went too, you can barely tell what the actors are saying in some skits.
A lot of it doesn't really hold up, big chunks of it are uncomofrtabe viewing in the modern age as you say. But a lot of the satire of the british political scene still works.
This shit legit scared me as a kid. Then years later I saw some footage and I was like people found this humorous in the 80s 90s wtf?
>Probably could never be done as viciously as they did back then today because of advertiser pressure and threat of being sued
Even for the British?
Very much so, Britsh media is a mess right now, none of the major players would commision it.
The BBC has been completely defanged since the goverment restructured it's board to be filled with government apointees, and the apointees of those apointees.
ITV is so desperate for ad revenue they rarely produce anything that isn't incredibly safe fluff, or mindless light-entertainment drivel.
Channel 4 still has a pair of balls on them, but they dont have the clout they used to, but they're funded by both ad revenue, and government funding (which they keep threatening to cut everytime 4 properly reports on their bullshit).
Sky has the revenue stream to avoid the hastle, but they're owned by Comcast, and Sky have never been able to do comedy well.
Everyone else is a non-entity
Just imaging a show like this produced by Sky makes me gag. It would be so fucking bad.
