Shit show, but I'm pretty sure if it had continued it would have ended with the reveal that Eric was the one who caused Maxum Man's disappearance. Either by having accidently killed him through sheer ineptitude, or that Eric WAS Maxum Man the entire time and had De-aged himself, which caused some bout of amnesia.

There's a pattern to these Canadian shows like Sidekick, Grojband, Camp Lakebottom, et al, where the showrunner clearly doesn't have any genuine interest in the show's gimmick. Sidekick doesn't seem to understand comic tropes enough to make an effective parody of the hero-sidekick dynamic. Camp Lakebottom captures none of the childhood camp experience to make such a sentimental theme worthwhile. Grojband never delves realistically into the art of crafting music or the struggle of being an unknown band.
What's unfortunate is that these are all great high concepts that should be more engaging than their American counterparts at the time like Sanjay and Craig or PGBC. They just don't give a shit about writing or being earnest.

Yeah, but the thing is Grojband nevers tries to parody the art of crafting music nor really talk about it realistically.
The other two were parodies of their themes, so failing in understanding them would fail in their comedy.
