>Thai character voiced by a Thai VA
>Dominican character voiced by a Dominican
Now how hard was that?
Thai character voiced by a Thai VA
Low quality bait, this is now a joint amphibia owl house thread
I’m so glad they got an actual Hispanic VA to voice Luz
both these characters are fucking ugly and boring
>13yo is voiced by a 30yo
You'd think that would be the main issue here.
Honestly they get paired up so much I occasionally have trouble telling them apart.
How?
I feel a bit bad for them, honestly. Them and the Moana VA and other non-whites who were hired for roles strictly for PR purposes. You know that they probably want to have a successful voice acting career, but their voice reels are only considered when someone has an ethnically fitting character to plug them into. Otherwise, they just get Tom Kenny, Grey Delise, John DiMaggio, or some random celebrity.
Excluding Estelle, I'm absolutely fucking sure no one on the SU team is going to see any future work despite the entire voice acting team being very diverse. Pearl's VA is pretty goddamn good, too, I hope she has a hopeful future.
This whole, "Hire VAs for their skin color!" isn't helping nepotism at all. How many fucking amateurs who only got to voice a main character because they were the showrunner's buddy from college does the industry really need?
>Excluding Estelle, I'm absolutely fucking sure no one on the SU team is going to see any future work despite the entire voice acting team being very diverse. Pearl's VA is pretty goddamn good, too, I hope she has a hopeful future.
In SU’s case, there’s also the fact that most of them from radio, theater and TV, with many of them not being voice actors by trade; I’m sure Pearl’s VA will just doing theater work. It also doesn’t help they were picked by singing talent rather than voice acting.
Low quality bait but I am happy they got a real hispanic to voice one.
To be fair, Kate Miccuci got a boost thanks to SU and is now a VA in her own right while Kimberly Brooks is a veteran in the business. But yeah, lot of one hit wonders with SU’s cast.
This. It would have been cringe to have another gringo voice them.
>Kate Miccuci
Was that thanks to SU? I thought she was getting a ton of VA work at the same time and I chalked that up to a good agent. I remember in just a couple of years, she was on Be Cool Scooby Doo, SU and Ducktales. And I had already recognized her from Raising Hope.
This is now a "posting cute pics about Luz and Anne" thread.
The nationality of VA doesn't matter that much, but a middle aged woman simply doesn't sound like a teenage girl.
30 isn’t middle aged and adults play kids in cartoons all the time
That could be it. I guess I was just wrongly attributing to SU after she managed to get important roles like Velma and Webby. It could have just been a good agent.
This girl will inspire so many Latinx children
Amphibia is not Brenda Song's first voice acting experience though, so I'm confused on what's wrong with her case...I can see how deflating it feels seeing her getting roles thanks to Disney most of time, though.
She tried branching out with that Netflix movie. Didn’t work out
Yeah like marcó that because the VA is gringoman had to make marco the character one of those chicanos that don't even bother to learn spanish besides saying nachos porfavor
I didn't say Amphibia was her first gig, only that she was probably considered because she was the only experienced Thai person they had on staff. As far as I know, the rest of the Plantar family are all voiced by white people. Chalk this up to, "There are just more white voice actors in the industry" or whatever, but the fact is that if Anne was any other race but with the exact same personality and mannerisms, Brenda wouldn't even be considered. They didn't audition Brenda because they thought she was the best person for the job, but because she was the best Thai woman for the job, and that list was probably already very small as far as Disney contacts are concerned.
She got plucked out for a job because Disney needed to show off that they have a Thai person on-staff and then will chuck her aside when they're done. She's not actually going to get any career boost from this, like what used to happen in the 90's. And this is happening constantly in the industry, way too many one-and-done's.
>the main issue
Never the issue.
Because god forbid minorities play minorities.
I don't want Anne to sound like a man.
I mean to be fair, Marco is actually half white. I feel many people overlook that part
bad b8 m8
>wHy ArNt ThE pLaNtArS vOiCeD bY rEaL fRoGs??
I don’t know why people get pissy over a bunch of white voice actors quitting because they’re already set for life. It’s usually the 10 same VAs anyway, how many fucking tildes do Grey or Lamar fucking have
Samefag
I did know that but his dad is clearly someone who came to America so he almost 100% has family who can only speak spanish. I have some family members who are like Marco and I always consider that not good.
Get your Twitter faggot memes out of here.
This and the fact that the available voice acting pool has effectively gimped itself in fear of retaliation from the twitter mob. Now instead of being able to go out there and building up a work portfolio based on your own talent and voice you're going to be stuck in a queue, waiting until some new show out there just happens to have a role available to you based on the physical characteristics you had no control over. This is also going to hurt showrunners in what types of ethnicities they want to include in their shows. Will we be seeing a massive decrease in Native American characters in animation when the number of available Native American voice actors is extremely sparse, even moreso if you want to match the tribe to avoid looking racist anyways? What about white characters, is it racist for those characters to only be voiced by white VAs or is it going to be hypocritically okay to have them voiced by non-white VAs? And obviously it's going to be a huge tangled mess once we get to non-human characters that can't be approximated by color of skin. This is why it's so fucking retarded when I heard about this stuff.
For years we've had pre-established characters in film and tv adaptations changing their genders, ethnicities, age groups, and especially sexual orientation all over the place because the actor playing them didn't actually match what they were in the original works, but there the change is apparent because the physical appearance plays a big role in how you perceive those characters. Merlin being a 20-something friend of Arthur is pretty fucking different from him being 80+ and a wise teacher to him, and there's no way you can make a Norwegian Viking dramadoc starring a majority black cast and not talk about the african elephant in the room. The thing is that you can't apply these things to a form of acting that is wholly separate from the physical form, yet that's what's happening right now.
America is destroying Latinx culture. Fuck Americanized people like Marco
