Okay, so Nimrod is actually a biblical figure known as a legendary hunter. The term being used for an insult actually comes from Looney Tunes with Bugs Bunny calling Elmer Fudd Nimrod, insulting him with the ironic, lofty comparison. This got misinterpreted by a lot of people and somehow ended up redefining the word for generations.
Sentinel Nimrod is named after the hunter because he is the ultimate hunter of Mutants.
