As bad as Family Guy is, it is still not the worst adult animated show on TV.
It's magnitudes above Brickleberry, Big Mouth, Fairy Tales & Mr. Pickles. It's also better than the entirety of FX's animation block. It's not as bad as Bordertown either. On an episode by episode basis it and South Park aren't that far apart in terms of quality for the last eight years.
It attracts more hate than some other shows due to its massive popularity and success, despite it being better than the majority of adult cartoons.
I don't know why for sure, but I've always had the feeling it's people parroting some you-tubers.
I imagine quite a few opinions about various shows are because of this. But I have no proof of course.
Hunter Carter
Let me add to this with an example:
Whenever people say Family Guy was much better in the early seasons... I don't know what the fuck they are talking about. The show has been just as good if not better in seasons since then but I still see that opinion over and over and over again. Never made sense to me.
Cooper Rodriguez
When it stopped being good, which was when Seth lost all interest in it and wanted to make movies/sing instead. So around 2009.
Kayden Ramirez
I'm afraid it started right at the beginning user. It was called a Simpsons knock-off right off the bat
Early Family Guy had a ZAZ Airplane quality to it,it was legit funny in its earlier season. It never was peak Simpsons good but it did its job at making you laugh youtube.com/watch?v=XxkBFY8L5z8
Easton Watson
Back in season 4 when the show returned from cancellation. That season had a lot of cutaways, overly long gags, and recurring gags that long overstayed their welcome.
Benjamin Collins
Everyone knew Family Guy had something deeply evil to it within a few episodes user
Austin Cox
Season 4 was the peak retard >PTV >Petergeist >North by North Quahog >Petarded >Brian Sings and Swings >Jungle Love >Brian the Bachelor >Stewie Griffin: the Untold Story >Peter and Stewie Bond >Cleveland-Loretta-Quagmire >Blind Ambition >Don't make me over >I Take Thee Quagmire
It was funny as fuck and gave us some of the most memorable moments of the show.
Cameron Edwards
I'd still much rather sit through an episode of new family guy than the majority of most long running cartoon sitcoms. The show is pretty much throwing shit at the wall so if you watch it long enough it will eventually get a laugh out of you, which is more than you can say for the simpsons these days.
Leo Ramirez
I think it was around the time Brian died.
Lucas Harris
holy crap lois
Aaron Bennett
Mr. Pickles is good, fuck you.
Levi Sanchez
You can say that in retrospect, but I remember people fucking hated season 4 at the time.
Levi Flores
Family Guy has actually hit the point where it’s not hip to hate on it anymore. Now it’s about ironically liking it and posting memes
Bentley Jackson
New stewie > old stewie
Jordan Williams
on a side note: Was "the cleveland show" any good? and why did they have to cancel it?
Grayson Watson
The only characters that aren't better now are the ones that haven't changed.
Carson Allen
>Was the Cleveland Show It's alright, better than Family Guy at the time >Why did they have to cancel it Overshadowed by Bob's Burgers
Parker Gray
>Overshadowed by Bob's Burgers REALLY? Bobs Burgers is the most boring shit ever.
Easton Evans
It's one of the better adult cartoons out there.
Dylan Peterson
It’s early seasons were good and at the time it was a new fad. It didn’t used to focus exclusively on bobs shit kids
Luke King
Its shallow and pedantic
Ryan Johnson
Psychicpebbles started cracking jokes about it on sleepycast and his twitter
Christian Campbell
>It's magnitudes above Brickleberry, Big Mouth, Fairy Tales & Mr. Pickles because those are all a knock off of Family Guy. All the willfully incendiary, edgy for the sake of being edgy jokes those shows do are in direct imitation of Family Guy, which stopped being a parody of family sitcoms and turned into a string of bullshit gags
Henry Reed
I just realized that Peter and Friends have the exaxt same personalities as the South Park kids.
>Joe and Stan: Morally good characters who are skilled at sports and is usually depressed by the world around them. Always try to make the world a better place. >Cleveland and Kyle: The most reasonable and intelligent of the group and is mocked because of their ethnicity (Cleveland for being black, Kyle for being Jewish) >Peter and Cartman: Fat fucks who are the worst of the bunch. Incredibly racist, murdered a ton of people and is generally rude to other people >Quagmire and Kenny: The perverts of the group and the most mature, has a ton of knowledge in terms of sex and women
Why are Seth and crew such hacks? Nothing about Family Guy is original.
Xavier Butler
I don't have strong feelings for Family or the even longer running Simpsons. There's a certain comfort in the fact that they will always be there.
Leo Rivera
What about SpongeBob?
Joseph Perry
The first four to five years after the comeback did a better job at making me laugh though I like the overall writing on mostly the same level.
Thomas Allen
It might be a generational (or sub-generational) thing. I was in 2nd or 3rd grade when it came back and it was still popular among my peer group until high school. I'm in a theater department now and they still quote this scene a lot for whatever reason.
Family Guy just takes some weird writing decisions the more they actually try. The episode when Meg calls everyone out would've been great if they stuck with it but then they went back to status quo before the episode even ended with her accepting her place as the punching bag.
