Why id All Dogs Go to Heaven so bad when American Tail and NIMH are timeless classics? You can’t just blame Burt Reynold’s being a terrible voice actor. Was it because the original idea of the dog being a private detective was scrapped and they made cuts to turn the movie more kid friendly?

I remember the animation was amazing is that right? Also I've never heard that it was originally something else.

why did carface have a laser

>Why id All Dogs Go to Heaven so bad
What are you talking about? This movie is great

Well the condemned to Hell sequence is baller as fuck and nightmare fuel as expected of Bluth, but there’s also some awkward and sluggish animation. And yeah, apparently it was initially envisioned as an anthology movie, Reynolds was even then intended as the lead dog character, but the studio went kaput due to financial difficulties it didn’t get made, so when they later got financing again and could do nee projects they basically reworked and rewrote the entire thing to its final form.

>Why is All Dogs Go to Heaven so bad
the fuck you talking about, its good and a lot better then the stuff he made after it.

Carface didn't. Killer did.

The rhetorical error you implemented here is called 'Begging the Question' whereby an unagreed-upon premise is presumed and interrogated upon post-hoc.

storywise it's a weird, nightmarish fever dream
I haven't seen any of those three movies since I was 9 and I can still recall beat for beat the storyline of American Tail and NIMH. I only remember hazy, frightening blurs of ALGtH.
Not that it was a bad movie, it just didn't follow the "commercially successful story" formula.

I liked it better than all of Bluth's following films, but it's not that good. Its storytelling was already dated from day 1, since Little Mermaid came out the same day

Annemarie is sexier than any Disney princess.

Personally, i only liked NIMH and Land Before Time. Couldn't care less about the rest

It wasn't a bad movie, but had the misfortune to come out at the same time as The Little Mermaid which hurt it both financially and critically.

That said, I do think the story was unfocused and it's not hard to see the budget cuts since American Tail and Land Before Time.

There may have also been some bad publicity after the whole murder-suicide of Judith Barsi...

All Dogs Go to Heaven is considered bad?

To me it feels like the last dying gaps of that darker style/formula late '70s-'80s feature animation was known for, which seemed to just evaporate shortly after The Little Mermaid became a smash hit.
I think some of Bluth's early '90s stuff might still has some of that but I don't feel like watching bad movies to check.

>it's not hard to see the budget cuts since American Tail and Land Before Time
Originally Bluth had a three feature deal with Spielburg, but this third film never happened.
I'm gonna guess this was because he wasn't very satisfied with how Land Before Time turned out. If you've ever wondered why the film is only 69 minutes long, it's because over 10 minutes of expensive, fully finished animation was cut out.

>it's because over 10 minutes of expensive, fully finished animation was cut out.
Which was certainly months of tedious daily work. Bah, pathetic waste.

It might’ve had something to do with the fact that the little mermaid came out the exact same weekend as it and completely destroyed it at the box office

You're not missing much if you skip them. Troll in Central Park is one of the most boring and childlish animated films i've seen, while Anastasia and Titan AE are peak soulless

The worst part is that the cut animation has never been found since, much like The Black Cauldron.

Somehow some of the cut shots of the hell sequence from ADGTH has been found, though unfortunately the video quality is ass.

Bluth's output is so... weird. I can't tell if it was the producer's fault for getting him involved with dumb stuff, or it was mostly his own doing. Does anyone know?

kys pedo

Is there something wrong with me? I've never found this movie to be anything near bad. Granted the alligator was sexually confusing to me but other than that it was a good flick

The Land Before Time was quite fantastic. I guess this also needs an obligatory Ducky died comment.

Watched it with the fiance last week. It really sucks.

As far as I know, the films Bluth himself had the most control over were NIMH and All Dogs. Personally I love the former while I could take or leave the latter.

It was reworked from a mystery/crime movie into... Whatever it is. It's definitely kinda disjointed and doesn't have a strong story
