Why do comic book writers have an obsession with an evil Superman?
Why do comic book writers have an obsession with an evil Superman?
Because they think they can do a better spin on the formula of Superman going evil than the other 100x its happened.
They can't but they keep trying it.
Also to wank Batman as the actual greatest superhero.
It’s cool, like how about a story where Superman sues his position to rape? That could work
People keep buying the comics
If Superman is the ultimate good in DC, an evil Superman would be the ultimate evil in DC.
newfag market, they know most newfags dont know about Red Son or Injustice
Because it’s a lot easier to write stories about superman going evil than it is to write stories about superman being good. because when he’s evil? It gives the story a very solid core to circle around.
But if he’s good and can’t go evil and can never go evil. And there really isn’t any conflict he can’t punch or heat vision his/ her way through. Tension is deflated
Superman is commonly known as the paragon of justice - even if there's more stories of him being evil nowadays, he's still the one you'll most likely think of when you think of a super hero.
So because he's the poster boy of justice, writers want to be deep and go into a 'what if he was evil' story, because i guess making the greatest paragon of justice evil is deep, despite having been made a thousand+ times
You know the worst part about Brightburn? It teased evil Aquaman and Wonder Woman, which both would've been a way more interesting movie than another boring ass evil Superboy story.
Because writing normal Superman well takes actual talent.
An overpowered alien that does only good and can only be loved and worshipped is a boring Mary Sue. Turned grey and then into villain, he’s terrifying because of his powers and that’s a fun villain. Especially with Batman as the underdog protagonist on the other side.
because its funny how even when he's "good", all it takes is killing his gf to make him go superhitler
because 40 years ago it was foretold a person would write a hit song called "Bad Guy" and it would make for really good trailers and things called "fan videos"
Batman is a boring mary sue though
>underdog protagonist
>Batman
You can have one, not both
Not really no, Lois has been "killed" plenty of times in comics.
Once Manchester Black did it, using his telepathy to fully convince Superman he had, and even though Superman wanted to kill him he still restrained himself because of his own beliefs.
Batman actually sells unlike Superman.
Like with the Adventure of Mark Twain, it's interesting to think "What if something so powerful it is beholden only to itself decided it didn't want to play nice?"
Injustice is hilariously fun and I can't wait for more. I don't get why this is hard to understand. Not everybody worships Superman so they don't see it as a thing that shouldn't be explored.
He's very powerful, so the idea of "Man, what would it be like if he was EVIL." sticks in our mind. And has for a pretty damn long time.
They're trying to make him more interesting for people, numb nuts.
>superman
>doesn't sell
Are you actually retarded?
Because it's an easy subversion. Superman is the "blue boyscout", he's widely known for two things, being super powerful and being super heroic.
So you turn one of those things on it's head, and you got an easy subversion. Problem is, such stories tend to ignore WHY superman is super heroic. Also half the time they exist to jerk off batman.
I imagine it's for the same reason why they make Captain America a Nazi. The current crop of comics writers are progressive ideologues who want to get a rise out of longtime fans and provoke an emotional response from them so that they have an enemy to present to Zoomers.
There are much better ways to make him interesting though. Especially ways that don't basically make him make a 180 personality wise.
I don't think there was any political motive behind making Cap a nazi. It was just a publicity stunt. And we've been getting "Superman bad" stories since Dark Knight Returns
He's more entertaining as a villain. Deal with it.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is the most basic ass bitch take there is in all fiction.
>And we've been getting "Superman bad" stories since Dark Knight Returns
Earlier. It was a common Elseworld premise or Cover fakeout in the silver and bronze ages.
Because the good guy being an all powerful alien is boring since you know he's going to win.
The bad guy being an all powerful alien means the good guy has to pull off some pretty neat tricks to beat him.
That's the only story you can make with superman
This
It’s not even really about Superman, they just want to see Batman kick his ass. Shit would be way more interesting if it wasn’t just an excuse for Batwank. Do an Evil Superman vs WW or Flash why don’t you?
Superman sells more comics as a whole tho
because he was a villain in the beginning but they changed the concept
What a retarded take. If it was the only story you can tell how did they ever tell stories with him as a hero?
The original Super-Man had nothing in common with Superman at all retard. It was more like Lex Luthor than Supes.
Cuz Batman rulez faggot.
Superman’s creator wrote an evil Superman before even creating the actual Superman.
They thought it was retarded, and played out. So they created an Überchad that beat up wife-beaters, mad scientists and corrupt politicians instead
Evil Superman is pretty boring as a character though. There’s no depth at all to him beyond murdering people, just look at Zod.
Shit like Kingdom Come and Red Son are some of the most popular shit even before this gay ass fad.
Both had some authoritarian Supermen and people ate it up.
Shit like Injustice was just the result of that.
You wanna blame someone? Fucking blame mainstream comicbook nerds for having such shit taste
In todays world people can't comprehend a truly selfless and kind person. Easier to write a power hungry sociopath.
I don't need villains to be deep and have sad background stories like people want for every last villain these days. I don't care about their personal lives or want to feel for their suffering. I just need somebody dark, powerful and evil to make it difficult on the goodies like Batman and his super friends. That's where the real fun is.
