The Dragon Prince

is it good

No.

It is as good as it is dead.

I finished season 3 today. It’s a pretty good show I think

It was all right. Story was generic but functional. The homosexual pandering in places was pretty blatant, but didn't hurt the narrative. TDP's two biggest flaws were that there was too much meandering and that they never really gave a compelling reason why Dark Magic was bad. Everything just seemed to boil down to "let's take the baby dragon back to the racist shitbags that want to kill us."

Anyway, pretty sure it got shitcanned so there's never going to be a satisfying ending.

It's okay. Kinda recreates the A:TLA vibe in some ways, but falls short in others.

I really like it but understand it’s not for everyone (weird animation and quip-heavy dialogue). I think the characters are really well written and quite a few jokes hit each episode. The depiction of elves is one of the more unique ones in fantasy (I love the different accents each type has, and each type having unique features). Cool dragon designs as well. Soren and Claudia are far and away the most interesting characters but Amaya, Rayla, and Janai are cool as well, and Aaravos is building up to be a great villain.

its ok, not good, not bad, animations not great and the story never seemed to find its rhythm.

I liked it. With the exception of Ezran I think the primary slate of characters is compelling and the show's strongest part, with the dynamics between them all really working for me as well. Dialog is surprisingly decent for an "all-ages" show. The plot and setting are familiar, but comfortably so and with enough tweeks and original takes to make it engaging without it feeling like someone dumping their TTRPG homebrew on you.

I think it's a shame that the first season has a reduced frame rate because I've read of too many people not giving it a chance on that basis, because beyond that I think that the show has a decent amount of visual stuff going for it.

On the contrary I think that the show suffers the most when it moves too quickly, especially in season three. I think that if it had the time that doing something like exploring Viren's march through Xadia or developing meaningful court intrigue with respect to Ezran's reign and abdication could have benefitted the show.

I just started watching it recently myself, really enjoying it so far. Started Season 3 today.

Season 1 is alright, it spends most of its time establishing the world and everything, but it wasn't bad or anything. The animation is a little wonky because they went for a "stylized framerate" which made things look a little stuttery. Didn't bother me nearly as much as I thought it would back when I saw the trailer a few years ago.

Season 2 was an improvement, things start moving along quicker. They also fixed the animation after hearing the complaints from people.

I've only seen the first episode of Season 3 so far, but it was a great season opener. Can't wait to see where the season goes.

The dragon designs are really cool so far, they're actual dragons instead of the wyvern-style dragons that a lot of franchises have been going for. The music in this show is really great too, I find myself humming the theme a lot lately.

Apparently there's a plan for another four seasons, split into two arcs. Things have been silent about if it'll happen but there is a panel at the SDCC@Home thing, so presumably we'll know for sure then. It'd be awfully weird to have a panel for a cancelled show though.

I'm hoping for more seasons and do think that the existence of a panel does tilt towards that becoming a reality, but I wouldn't take it as a sure sign.

Post-mortem panels for shows do happen, and the show's creators have stated that they want to realize the show's full story even if that means jumping mediums.

Wonderstorm was also founded in part as a game studio, and has been developing a Dragon Prince game from the start, so that's another possible reason for a panel. A lot of their press mentions their game development intentions, alongside the fact that all three co-founders are former Riot employees.

Should I even bother watching it if it got canceled?

I'm not taking it as a sure sign, just saying it tilts more towards it being likely.

It's not been confirmed cancelled yet, I'd say give it a watch. Apparently they're gonna finish the story no matter what so it's not like it'll be left in the dust.

seasons 1-3 feel like a full first complete story in a saga. Like finishing the namek saga.

Yes. The three seasons that are out effectively form a complete story even if there are some unresolved threads.

I might be projecting my own false hope, but FWIW there's also been no formal news of cancellation.

I'm going to assume you're just misusing that comparision, because "Namek" is a byword for "any arc that goes on way too fucking long".

No

It's pretty good. The waifu game is stellar.

I think it's very enjoyable. Cool characters. The main conflict could use some nuance but it's a fun watch overall

Viren really disappointed me, I hoped he would be this morally grey character that goes on to do good things in a bad way but he goes muh pure evil and scheming surprisingly fast.

It's decent, but it desperately needed an extra 5 episodes per season.

Yeah, the pacing was all-over the place

is like ok, decent at times, season 1 is eyecancer but next 2 seasons are day and night in comparison and is really short really which its an issue too since it wants to be this epic tale akin to ATLA but is constrained to Netflix 9 episode limit thingy they are doing with many shows nowadays

maybe try to find out by yourself, is not that long anyway

No. It tries too hard to be deep and full of lore, but forgets that it's only got like 9 episodes of about 20 minutes per season. It's also full of head scratching logic and morality, and conforms to the LGBTQFJWKG+ checklist to the letter. The sound direction, art direction and voice acting was really good though.

>conforms to the LGBTQFJWKG+ checklist to the letter
any show getting Netflix shekels directly to make the show must to, big fucking suprise but its only there and barely noticible unless you literally get triggered my the most minuscules nodding to those people

>unless you literally get triggered my the most minuscules nodding to those people
I don't, but given how completely over saturated the entertainment industry is with those nods and acknowledgements it gets super tiresome to see it everywhere, even when it's got absolutely nothing to do with the story. If you're already pressed for time with such a paltry number of episodes it's better to just focus on the story instead of taking an entire episode to have a lesbo born loli queen slay the evil straight white man with bad logic and worse morality, right?

yes, aaravos is flawless.

It is well-made.

It's kind of schmaltzy and has no balls whatsoever.

........Huh. I guess it really isn't very good.

That does happen in real life, too. At one point you pass a moral horizon - one clear choice you have to take - and from then on it's "fuck it, I guess I am evil".

It could be but it really isn't
Biggest outright flaw is the general style considering that Avatar got a lot of mileage taking cues from far east cultures its really disappointing that Draggy Pinch has such a generic art style
The show also seems kind of confused on what message its supposed to have
There doesnt seem to be any good reason to be having a war at all
The only thing that would hold my attention for a season 4 is more Rayllum but I have a sneaky suspicion they would pull a separation plot

It's interesting how the creators managed to come up with a setting that justifies the existence of such diverse racially mixed nations. My only meh is that the French accents for the Sunfire elves felt fake, and season one's animation which gets much better later on

>It's not been confirmed cancelled yet,
honestly people, it's not cancelled they're waiting until the Comic Con stream to officially announce

>art style
That's the wrong word I feel
More costume and set design maybe the CG looks fine
Everything looks too world of Warcraft for my tastes and there are ways to have a disctinct look and still be lazy
Steal from real life

>but its only there and barely noticible
Based useful idiot. Yeah I hardly noticed the interracial lesbian queens with a daughter queen.

Sauce?
