I don't think you remember the worst episodes of BTAS then. There were some shitty ones. The JL pilot was pretty great and a lot better than mid-range BTAS episodes imo. BTAS is on a whole other level though altogether. I enjoy JL more than JLU because the focus was on the core members. I love the additional characters in JLU but I like the more contained approach in JL

That's called character developpment. He's fed up of his RG and Lost faith in redeeming them. You also have to read the Gotham Adventures to get the full picture of what's going on in Btaman's head at that time.
And it makes his subsequent character developpment in JL even more satisfying.
