Going back to Ditko, some of the only people who'd cut Spidey a break when Jameson was doing his thing, were the Police.

Spidey exists in a fictional NY where the police are actually kinda okay.

I mean the NYPD is not exactly known for their prime conduct. The incident where they chucked Adrien Schoolcraft into an asylum for exposing corruption in his police district. Or that they made memorabilia celebrating the fact.

My own experiences with police (Metro Phoenix area) is that they're basically either pedophiles, prescription addicts, or guys who just want suckle off the teat of the public sector. The pedophiles will tend to ever want to be part of the local explorer program (like scouts for cops) or doing patrol for some prot hotspot like Van Buren. Addicts are almost focused on speeding and road patrol, they'll also all usually try and apply to be motor cycle cops because of the prestige. But they basically just want excuses to rumage around your car to get some excuse for some sort of civil forfeiture to impress the grass to get a raise And feed their habit. And finally the last are the guys who C's in high school and were rejected by military recruitment. So they'll just sit in their patrol car most of the time only to fill the quota. They'll also usually make a ridiculous arrest right at the end of their shift because processing takes awhile but isn't hard work. Meaning it's an easy way to get OT.

Americans hate themselves the most, and their police and politicians reflect them, which means that everyone there hates everyone and wants everyone else to kill each another.
