>Just limiting ourselves to the Top 750, Scholastic surged forward in sales this year by selling an astonishing 6.7 million copies, from 73 placing books This is an incredible 49% growth from last year (4.5 million copies), which itself was up 67% from 2017 (2.7 million). In calculated retail dollars, we’re looking at almost $86.4 million in sales.
>Or, how about this: if you combine the Top 750 performance of all of the Diamond Comic “Premier” publishers (Boom!, Dark Horse, DC, Dynamite, Image and Marvel) those combined best-sellers only amount to 1.4 million books, or only a fifth of Scholastic alone. Scholastic is, quite simply, dominant.

Can anyone stop the Scholastic Juggernaut?

in absolute awe of this pilkey gentleman. he can buy an island off his dogbux

So all the arguments about how kids don’t want comics because there are so many other things competing for their time and money are bullshit then.
Wrong again Zig Forums.

so it's actually adults that don’t want comics because there are so many other things competing for their time and money are bullshit then.

There's already a thread. Lurk moar next time.

there's like 6 korra threads up. we can have two threads for the bookscan report that comes out once a year

Correct. Marvel and DC are just not stepping up when it comes to making content that people would actually read. Instead, they pander to an audience that won't give them the time and day while simultaneously paying lip service while bleeding and pissing off their remaining customers.

>20 MY HERO ACADEMIA, VOL. 1 HORIKOSHI, KOHEI VIZ MEDIA 98,720
How?

Zig Forums doesn't acknowledge things that aren't made by a mega-corporation as existing.

user, that thread is just for big 2 fags and weebs to fling shit at each other, not for actual discussion.

How what?

How did it sell that well when it's complete shit?

>Dogman sold 4 million books last year
Is this the West's answer to One Piece?

Based Dogman.

If anyone here wants to make comics pay attention, kid comics sell.

To clarify again for those who respond without reading the link or knowing what Bookscan is:

This is comics sold through the bookstore market, it doesn't count anything distributed to comic stores and other Direct outlets through Diamond or anything sold by online comics retailers. Just physical bookstores and the online shops of those chains. So it's a slightly different type of market than what you'd see elsewhere, which is why the only comics that show up are titles that are already famous or popular (same with manga).

Because it’s popular with children and snoys

TFW the market for babby comics explodes and takes over because it sells well with the demographic too young to know how to get their stuff for free.

Lmao get fucked should've supported creators huh.

Since when do sales have anything to do with quality?

You mean America. Asterix sells like 15 mil copies every time an album comes out.

Huh. I was sure it included Amazon at least.

Why would pirates care about sales?

Well you got me there

based Pilkey and Talgemeier carrying the whole industry

he actually says the numbers of Diamond though 1.4 million copies

Notably, they own the copyrights to all their characters. They're not stuck trying on work-for-hire trying to reinvent some conglomerate's legacy IP.

It's for comparison.

Because sales numbers shape the future of content being made. It's called business.

And you think every comic creator and company is now going to exclusively make comics aimed at children? Despite the Scholastic growth being years in the making?
Honestly if they're on the level of Telgemeier's work it would be a slight improvement for the big 2.

Really? The big 2 could be improved you say? Wow it's almost like they make subpar content and shitty decisions because they don't need to worry about how much money it makes since it's very miniscule to begin with. Weird huh

Is Dog Man any good?

it really is
