Will we ever get another adaptation of any kind outside the comics or is she too perfect for the fragile women of today?

that movie news has been silent for a long time, probably development hell. I don't see a movie coming out this decade though, it's just not the genre that is in style these days. As for comics, read Mark Russell's run, it's pretty great, really pushes her into some corners.
user wdym, if anything women are oppressing the men today
After that fucking disaster of a Conan movie, it's probably gonna be awhile.
Where to start with red sonja bros?
>that movie news has been silent for a long time, probably development hell
Nope it's in active pre-production.
The writer/director has lots of pics/videos on her instagram stories showing them scouting filming locations.

I was initially horrified by who they chose as she is a far left non binary hyper feminist type... BUT she has re posted blatant Sonja pin ups like the following so I think that suggest she may not hate the bikini by some incomprehensible miracle.

My bad, here is the second link.

user, they never change. You are right to be doubtful.
Who would you cast?
> Antje Traue (faora in man of steel)

Actually a pretty good pick user.
Not sure who I'd pick to be honest. Would say Lucy Lawless if she was still young but unfortunately time has passed.
>is she too perfect for the fragile women of today?
wasn't at least one of the recent Red Sonja comics written and/or drawn by women?
you know whats going to happen
Weren't bad either. I just think Gail Simone's run suffers from a lot of Joss-Whedon-syndrome where everyone is a quippy smart ass.
Pulp is more fun when it pretends to take itself seriously.
is Sonja a lesbian now?
She always swung both ways... with a sword.
Sauce on the milktruck?
bellechere
I hope not. She is a redhead so they will change her into a negress in adaptation.
That movie is ten years old and we're post-Game of Thrones. The time for a fantasy resurgence is now.
>muh bikini
I hope the movie draws more from Barry Windsor-Smith's original design and gives us something more like pic related. The bikini is an 80s relic and is too Bermejo to work onscreen. It has its place, but its not sacrosanct.
That's always been the loophole of the "can't sleep with men unless they best you in combat" rule.
The Chainmail Bikini has its place in pin-ups and such, but it would look ridiculous in a film.
Unless you went completely over the top like 300 or so, you couldn't really make it look right.
Best I can think of is that they use it in one scene where Sonja needs to cause a distraction or infiltrate some warlord's harem or something.
Just have the movie be an R/18 and have absolutely everybody in the movie be scantily clad. Have some of the men wear chain bikinis, and some women topless, and we will all have fun.
If you show some actual goddamn dicks nobody will be talking about the chainmail bikini, that is true.
But that movie would never get a wide release in the US.
Hey, if you spin it right you’ll get a Watchmen tier following and people will call it a Cult Classic and the most successful adult rated movie of all time because they saw dicks swinging on the big screen.
>muh "practical" in fantasy
Fuck yourselves with a fucking baseball bat. Fantasy should be impractical and over the top. It should be fucking EPIC. The bikini is the thing a warrior goddess would wear. Any trollop can wave a sword around, not many have the absolute ability and daring to do it in a scale bikini.
While I agree in principle, we're not talking about practicality in fantasy as much as practicality in live-action.
Unless you want them to CG every scale of her loincloth in every scene so it falls perfectly and stops every nipslip, a real human person can't really wear that costume and do proper stuntwork. How a hundred sharp pointy pieces of tin like Bellechere is wearing in the OP works while riding a horse is anyone's guess.
Fantasy should be over-the-top. I'd be disappointed if they put Sonja in a torn grey tunic or something for the sake of "realism", but the design of the costume has to be something a human being can feasibly wear.
>Unless you want them to CG every scale of her loincloth in every scene so it falls perfectly and stops every nipslip
I'd rather they keep the nipslips, but we have the technology.
>a real human person can't really wear that costume and do proper stuntwork
Stuntwork is going to be 80% CGI per usual these days. Not really an excuse.
We cant do it. Not at this time, not even in animation much less a fucking movie.
Let it rest.
Depends really. Red Sonja deserves a full sword a sorcery blood and its treatment. While there is also space for other types of fantasy, from grimderp, to historical, to high fantasy.
