Tynion said on a podcast a couple days ago that after new 52 earth 2 Alan was gay cause his gay son was gone, Didio promised that main earth Alan would be gay when the JSA came back
So with Didio gone will writers make him straight again? Especially since they're aiming for him to be in other media?

around 54:00 is where he talks about Didio telling him that
There is absolutely zero chance now that they've already released the issue confirming he's gay on Earth-0.
Also James Robinson is a producer and writer on Stargirl, so I'd say it's extremely likely Alan will be gay there, too.
This was never just a Didio thing. It was a corporate thing. And these are all company men.
>So with Didio gone will writers make him straight again?
No. And it's fine, because literally nobody gives a flying fuck about the women Alan dated and married.
Didio knew that Johns was going to bring back at the JSA with Alan and his kids at the end of Doomsday clock that shit was one of the propose of that book and Im pretty sure even if Doomsday Clock changed some stuff of its original plan the JSA part remained so this is once again another proof that Didio didnt like the Rebirth/Doomsday Clock from the beginning and hacks like Tynion and Snyder they were on board with the idea to fuck Johns plans in order to have more power in DC
>There is absolutely zero chance now that they've already released the issue confirming he's gay on Earth-0.
the issue confirmed nothing whatsoever.
Sure, implied it... but in a way vague enough it can be safely ignored
I did, because it gave us Jade and obsidian.
>I did, because it gave us Jade and obsidian.
Alan being gay doesn't exclude Jade and Obsidian from existing.
No but now its lazy writing
Alan is gay and also his son
Its like okay but kind of pointless
It changes the whole character dynamic between them. Making him gay is gonna be easy because so much of his characterization is being a rich white cishet man and Tynion is nowhere near a good enough writer to take this on.
How is it actually lazy? Gay people have kids all the time, especially gay men in the 40's and 50's who need to hide the fact that they're gay. It's just as pointless as him being straight. It literally doesn't matter. In fact, him having a gay son grow up in a more accepting time would be a good way to have Alan explore how due to the society around him he's still uncomfortable with being an out gay man
>No but now its lazy writing

Unless you think gay character can only have token representation, there is nothing wrong with a gay man having a gay son. If anything, that's relatively rare occurrence in comics.
Change isn't inherently bad. Maybe we can get something else besides Alan having a slightly awkward relationship with his son and Todd going crazy for the ninth time.
Because we're talking about 80 years of history and material here. Trying to say he's gay now is lazy because it shows zero consideration of those 80 years.
Alan wanting to fuck men doesn't actually change much of the history, hell, it changes less than any of the other reality changing events. But even if it does, so what? Alan is Gay now, how does that ignore 80 years of history any more than something like giving Superman a Son?
yeah i'm lgbt and i hate it
true, but I doubt they'd bother to make the whole thing interesting as it could.
And I'm LBGT and I'm all for it because I don't think Alan being gay is actually a big change for the character and can actually be interesting to see how a gay man in the 40's had to deal with it
It's not like he was a casanova or grand family man tho
He never actually dated that Irene Miller lady who only cameoed twice after his solo ended in the 40s, he couldn't even remember getting married and fucking his kids' mom and Thorn was referenced only a handful of times after getting retconned in (usually unflattering to Alan or just saying hey this is Jade and Obsidian's mom), and Molly cameoed like maybe 5 times after GL Quarterly and Underworld Unleashed ended let alone had important speaking parts.
Really out of the more important JSAers he's actually a really solid choice cause his love life was never important compared to Jay and Ted. Only Charles or maybe Al would be better cause they didn't have love lives at all.
Because Alan is character set during a time period where being gay was literally outlawed. Retroactively making him gay ignores what that actually would mean.
>the way that Alan canonically didn't have sex for 18 years between honeymoon fucking Thorn and marrying Molly
>I don't think Alan being gay is actually a big change for the character
It is and you actually gave the reason why it would.
>actually be interesting to see how a gay man in the 40's had to deal with it
If you want any mileage of him being gay then you would have to reexamine everything about him.
>Gay people didn't exist because it was illegal then
Maybe they could use this to discuss what being forced to be in the closet does to someone? Again, that's not ignoring history, it's showing a side to history that's rarely seen
Great, so we get more character introspective, that’s a plus,
He'd have different experiences sure and things would be different, but they wouldn't change his personality that much, it wouldn't change his heroism etc. It'll add a new layer. Nobody bitches this hard when they retcon other stuff, but making them gay is somehow such a massive change when it's miniscule compared to the differences you would see pre and post crisis
>but they wouldn't change his personality that much
Yes it would.
It's not a story meant for Alan Scott. He's the character with the most resistance to tell this story.
Yeah...
How? You know most gay people aren't flamboyant and all that shit right? Most gay men act in a typically masculine way, they just fuck men too, especially a man from the 40's where the idea of being a man was much more strict.
But if he were gay, what would change? What things would change to such a degree that it's ignoring 80 years of history?
>Unless you think gay character can only have token representation
But thats the exact reason why Alan is gay now so you prove my point, Do you actually think that DC is going to tell good story with gay Alan?
Why wouldn't they?
Because of the writers that DC have right now and because pretty sure the main writer that is going to write about gay Alain is going to be Tynion
it's a weak and mostly performative inclusionary gesture.
Cause DC is incapable of telling good stories.
Literally everything that companies do are weak and performative, doesn't mean they shouldn't do it
This. People act like we dont have a precedent already with Iceman, remember that they used the same argument with Bobby that he being gay doesnt change anything of his character, its even a plus for his character because now is more complex.......
And we all know now how that story ended with Bobby now being a one character note that his only purpose is being gay
The same shit is going to happen to Alan now he is going to be the guy gay of the JSA
