Ash's team sucked this saga, he didn't deserve to win. Outside of meme frog and Pikachu, he had Hawlucha and Talonflame (decent) and two jobbers - one of them only being on the cast for 15 episodes before being released.

Alain beat 10 Megas and an Elite Four Member with Charizard. He also suffered and trained a lot more than Ash before, during and after the League, so he deserved the win more.

You serious user? The guy has some impressive achievements under his belt. As depressing as it was, the battle against Tobias, with his Latios and Darkrai, was one of his finest performances ever. The kid literally did nothing wrong; he made every correct strategic decision and even took out two legendaries.

This. If there was a season Ash genuinely deserved the win it was that one. Unfortunately they just had to put a bullshit super legend trainer from out of nowhere there.

Darkrai surviving that perfect Heracross combo was absolute horseshit no matter how you slice it.

The Sinnoh League was a tragedy in general. That Heracross inclusion from Ash in general was smart as fuck. He was riding off the high from the battle against Paul and the anime was at its best yet. Then some cunt with action replay swept his team.
We need to abandon Ash, honestly. I feel like if Pokemon took the sports anime approach, it would benefit greatly. Put emphasis on training and developing improvised moves, put emphasis on the mental toll of participating in league tournaments, flesh out the MC's team's personalities, all of that. There's so much potential with Pokemon. They could make the MC a hyper-autist that battles in a super gimmicky way, or a dunce that very noticeably gets better at strategising, or both, or somebody with absolutely no talent for battle that grinds like hell to get where he is. There's countless things they could do. It's agonising seeing the anime just carry on
