For me, I'd go with DC 9 times out 10. I don't hate Marvel but DC's comics and heroes just resonate with me much more than anything Marvel has come out with. The closest Marvel has come to DC in my eyes are Spider Man, Planet Hulk and that one cosmic arc where Havok is trying to stop Vulcan. Think it was Kingbreak/War of Kings arcs.
DC's stories and heroes are the pinnacle of what it means to be heroic. And their roster of heroes and villains completely eclipses Marvel's in terms of scale and potency of story lines.
Usually, I just read both, but I guess if I had a gun to my head, DC, usually have more of a connection to their characters
Evan Flores
Marvel because I grew up with them. I do hate the SJW stuff though.

It's a tough decision for me too. But, I've always been a batfag and my very first career choice as a kid was Batman. I love Spider Man and X Men but DC and the Justice League has always been higher on my list than Marvel and the Avengers. >I do hate the SJW stuff though. I grew up with both thanks to the Timmverse and the 90s Spider Man and X-Men series. I feel that. Pandering always brings an art form down. Doubly or triply so when they bank on ID politics.
Is Zig Forums a slow board? Don't come here too often. Was hoping for a more spirited debate. Was also hoping that some anons would recommend some kino Marvel arcs that I haven't read yet.

I grew up with Marvel and still like them better in a lot of ways. More coherent universe, continuity that's a lot stronger and a lot more accessible at the same time, a cosmic side that's way more developed. But I've been reading DC since I got back into comics because their current stuff seemed more interesting and I'm finding a lot to love about the DCU as I dig into the back catalogue. Legacy characters are awesome, they do horror a hell of a lot better than Marvel, and more stuff in non-superhero genres.
Ultimately I'd say Marvel because of a combination of their universe working better, the strength of their Silver and Bronze age material compared to DC, and childhood nostalgia. But I don't feel any rush to leave DC at the moment.

Deecee is fucking dead in the water for a good reason
Joseph King
How are they dead in the water? Because EvS and cosmicbooknews say AT&T is going to sell? Famously reliable sources.
DC is expanding beyond the direct market, shaking up distribution, investing in digital and OGNs more, and Rebirth was probably the best publishing initiative of the last 5 years. Their sales are declining relative to Marvel but that's been the case for quite a while and in terms of business innovation and quality of output they're certainly going in a better direction.
Mason Green
DC, for the characters mostly. And nowadays, while the writing isn't stellar, I think the art at DC (on main books at least) is waaaay better, which helps a lot
Gabriel Jenkins
I dunno DC has better else world stories but Marvel's big events have bigger impact on the status quo.
Owen Barnes
Marvel, DCs main value these days is well designed character logos to sell merchandise
Robert White
What arcs would you recommend for Marvel Kino? I've been a DChad since I was born. Batfag through and through. What would you recommend that I didn't list in the OP?

If you like the Hulk then Immortal Hulk is pretty good
Anthony Gonzalez
Added to my bookmarks. Do you have anymore recs? I've always liked Spider Man and basically grew up on my Dad and Uncle's old Spider Man comics from the 60s/70s outside the 90s cartoons of Spider Man, X Men and the Timmverse along with my Aunt's copies of Richie Rich and Little Lotta, Sad Sack and other Harvey Comics. My brother got the hardcover collection of SM that included the 9/11 issue. Sorry if this reads like a stream of consciousness but I'm fucking winedrunk atm.
Zachary Wood
company fags are pathetic. Kino taste is legit enjoying good comics from either side.

If you like X-Men and old comics then Claremont's run is the place to begin. Check out the Uncanny X-Men omnibi. Volume 1 drops in like 5 days (you're gonna wanna preorder cause it will sell out very fast; try Tales of Wonder). And volumes 3-4 are set to come out through the fall into spring of 21 along with volume 1 of New Mutants and Claremont & Lees adjectiveless X-Men run from the 90s if those interest you.
And if you want newer X-Men then House of X/Powers of X is the perfect jumping on point, leading into Dawn of X which is what's going on right now. This is a pretty good reading order, although don't get too hung up on all that background reading, just jump into hoxpox and dox and you'll be fine.
I like both. Overall, I have enjoyed DC more, but that's only because the last 15 years of marvel have been mostly unbearable, with minor exceptions
Justin Cox
>you're gonna wanna preorder cause it will sell out very fast I wish I could but funds have been rather limited the last 3 years thanks to weather and corona. >tfw small business owner that relies on daily costumers I own a LAN center in North Dakota and thanks to Corona Virus and harsh winters from 2018-2019 plus corona virus in 2020 my funds are extremely limited. Ashamed to admit it but I have had to move back in with my folks because of the aforementioned occurrences.
That blows. Not your fault though and at least you're not living in a car or some shit. Tough all over right now.
Uncanny v1 is like $55 including shipping on Tales of Wonder though. Obviously put financial common sense and the health of your business above buying some comics that you can easily pirate but that's doable for most people. If not then you can try readcomiconline if you're not aware of them. Only major downside is that you'll have to navigate some complicated reading orders, which is a pain in the ass on digital.

I was a DCfag since the early 90's, but recently I have completely given up on them and gone full Marvel. DC is just dull grey boring nothing masquerading as adult. The last straw for me was Rebith. What a fucking travesty.
At least Marvel knows what it is and can surprise you at times. Like the Immortal Hulk, now that's how you write a fucking comic book. What the fuck, DC?
>readcomiconline I've used them before for Crossed and whatnot. To be honest I'm not too keen on pirating if it's a story I enjoy. I'd prefer to support the artists if I enjoy their work. Sadly I think I'll have little choice for the next couple of years if I want to read/watch current stories in Marvel and DC. And if I can be absolutely real for a moment, I completely quit pirating once proper streaming services became available in the early 2010's. I have started up again recently because of how divided streaming/monthly services have become in recent years.
If there are any reps from Netflix/Hulu/HBOMax or what the fuck ever lurking. The easier and more convenient you make your media to access the less people will pirate. That is an inarguable fact.
Jayden Robinson
How versed? Try Unbelievable Gwenpool.
Jordan Ward
I pirate because it's hard and I like working for my entertainment. readcomiconline can be a real fucker when blocking ads but that's part of the game, ain't it?
Ryder Clark
I'm sorry, I'm on Team Donal Duck.
Oliver Sanchez
>How versed? Outside Spider-Man and Wolverine not very to be honest. Read the Havok vs Vulcan arc while on vacation and mostly absorbed whatever the 90s cartoons of Spider-Man and X-Men adapted.
I read/buy Batman/Detective Comics whenever I can though.
Hunter Sanders
>not reading Scooby Doo comics For shame.
Josiah Fisher
Dude go read Planet Hulk or something. you lucky lucky bastard.

I always prefer DC because of how much they lean on the mythology aspect of their heroes. While Marvel may be more coherent, I do love that each major DC character kinda has a "world" to themselves that builds out from them. Honestly, the contradictions that DC has just makes it more interesting. Plus, Marvel always leaned more into the realistic aspect where DC has never been afraid to get weird with its characters. Another factor is that Marvel focused way too much on heroes vs heroes bullshit in the 00's and 10's, even during its more edgy phases, DC never really leaned too much in that regard compared to Marvel. It'd be nice to see the X-Men and another superhero group be friends for once. Pic related is another big reason why I prefer DC.
I've already read Planet Hulk and have deemed it KINO in my eyes. Sorry I didn't include that in the post you're (You)'ing but I'm OP. I agree with you wholeheartedly. To expand on my initial post DC has always seemed to me to be a pantheon of "gods" that a person should emulate and look up to rather than relate to. Outside of the cosmic stuff, Marvel has been the opposite for me. To me Marvel is where you read about heroes/heroines you can self insert as. X-Men = gay/minority demographics, Spider Man = a nerdy fucking nerd, Cpt America = a nerd self inserting as a chad, etc. Hey now, Scooby Doo was top tier in the 2000's
Funny thing is, there's a lot of DC heroes that I do relate to, I even think that they're more relatable than Marvel heroes but that may be because I'm an optimist.
Mason Clark
Read DC back in High School and preferred it in pretty much every instance then Nu52 and then Rebirth happened and now I don't read anything coming out of the publisher. So Marvel by default.
