Industrialphobic garfield hates monday
Damn, that's actually cool.
He is not wrong.
Heathcliff claims dominance over Zig Forums.
And yet there he is wearing a finely-woven hoodie with a zipper, sunglasses and recording himself on VHS - all products of the industrial revolution.
Do it again Uncle Ted
shut up commie
Imagine being this dumb.
This is a heathcliff board.
>Source: Trust me
>implying its a good thing africans live longer
Imagine being THIS dumb
While live expectancy and overall quality of life massively improved, there are many deeply concerning side effects that are being addressed, but will have a lasting negative impact for the foreseeable future.
Examples include: massive reliance on unethical work environments abroad, complete interdependence of relevant sections of the western world, abhorrent quality oversights in the food industry, the long term death of small enterprises in many areas, etc etc.
Saying that the Industrial Revolution has bought with it it's own set of problems is different from saying that the Industrial Revolution and it's consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
The industrial Revolution was the best thing to happen to us since we learned to grow our own food.
This type of mindset, thinking about some idyllic "old times" great lifestyle is so backwards and disrespectful to the great strides we have made as a fucking species. People DIED AT 30. THERE WAS NO FUCKING MEDICINE. YOU CAUGHT WHATEVER THE FUCK IT WAS AND ALL PEOPLE COULD DO FOR YOU WAS PRAY.
PEOPLE FUCKING STARVED TO DEATH.
MY ANCESTORS ENTIRE VILLAGE IN BUMFUCK NOWHERE, NORTHERN ITALY WAS DECIMATED BY CHOLERA.
I agree. I am just generally on board with people kicking off a conversation with a hyperbole. Yknow. Thesis, Antithesis, Synthesis.
That isn't commie jackass, Marx himself literally says that the industrial revolution and capitalism were step up from feudalism, its just in his mind that socialism and then communism will replace it
You're picking some random argument with some random user because some other user posted a picture of Garfield the Cat dressed up as Unabomber Ted Kaczynski.
I wonder when people will start forgetting he existed.
Garfield, or Ted? Either way, do the kids even know either one of them these days?
They absolutely wouldn't if it weren't for memes.
Give it another two decades, the generation after Z won't know shit about either of them outside of skimming wikipedia for a school project or something.
>You want to improve society? And yet you live in society! Hmm.
It's a stupid comic, but you're the guy.
>You want to improve society
That's not what people who pull this card want to do user.
>saying we'd be better with insanely high infant mortality rates and without modern medicine is wanting to improve society
Nigga you dumb
You're a dumb fag who thinks he's keeping the gates. It's not like you know any better about macroeconomics to understand good ideas from bad ones.
You have to hear Teddy talk to really get the full picture. I expected a deep and menacing voice, but the dude has a high nasally voice and sounds like he desperately wants to tell you about all his Pokemons.
His story is still pretty interesting, tho. Especially the stuff about the psych experiments.
Le survival of the fittest XD
Le weacc should fear le stronk XDD
It feels like you can make a short creepypasta based of this image.
>massive reliance on unethical work environments abroad
Farm work in the XV century would be considered unethical today. So is shit like construction or even manufacturing.
>complete interdependence of relevant sections of the western world
Before states would be at constant war with their neighbouring states to conquer/defend resources, as they were limited and interdependence/trading was risky.
>abhorrent quality oversights in the food industry
Corn syrup and processed meats are poison, but c'mon. Before the industrial revolution not even water was entirely safe to drink.
>the long term death of small enterprises in many areas, etc etc.
Local shops and production is basically dead. This is a huge problem.
It's perfectly reasonable to say that the world as it is isn't perfect and must/should be reformed, but the industrial revolution has been a net positive.
FUCK HER RIGHT IN THE LASAGNA
The real question is going to be whether chemical exposure and global warming are going to cause mass extinctions, in which case industry will have legit been a disaster.
If you look at something like Teflon contaminates, there no longer exist people or waters without bio-persistant pollutants. The effects of that are only now being examined, but in the US lobby interests generally reject the notion that industry has been global harm and fight investigations into it.
Not that I'm saying the Industrial Revolution should have been good. Just that paired up with a lack of responsible oversight the short term gains of the revolution will be lost to famine and huge sections of land will be destroyed.
>Farm work in the XV century would be considered unethical today.
the sheer scale is different.
>better than war
yup.
>Before the industrial revolution not even water was entirely safe to drink.
true, but that is a hygiene aspect that has been fixed by massive infrastructure. I would not compare that. However, it is better than starvation, although that is not really a flattering comparison
>the industrial revolution has been a net positive.
oh, certainly. but I genuinely feel the repercussions are generally understated. At least that is my impression.
