By having an absolutely amazing villain song.
By being cool as fuck.
He did hav some buildup before he appeared through Lock, Shock and Barrel (and the cameo in the intro song) so his presence was already looming.
Would you add Oogie to your party?
A fantastic villain song and very distinct design.
That and he tried to kill Santa Claus.
Cause he's the oogie boogie man
>good presence, always a good trait for a villain
>has fun being evil, also a good trait for a villain
>interesting design and gimmicks (shadow in the moon for no reason but it's fucking cool, blacklight effect, gambling motif, sack full of bugs)
>good villain song
I honestly prefer they went with the sack full of bugs over the original idea of him being the mad scientist in disguise. Being a bug raised so many questions that it was brought back and adressed in at least two games, to my knowledge.
Probably one of my favorite lines in the movie
Santa Claus "Just what are you going to do to me?"
Ooogie Boogie " I'm going to do the best I can!"
It's a great fucking delivery and Oogie Boogie says so much by saying so little. It's like that dance scene in reservoir dogs with stuck in the middle. Imagine if your chained up and Pinhead (or any horror villain) starts singing showtimes. You know that the minute he's done shit is going to get real, real quick.
That line is actually taken from Cab Calloway's song "The Old Man Of the Mountain". I think I read somewhere that Oogie was based somewhat off of Cab somewhat too youtube.com
He was really gonna be the scientist in disguise?
The orginal fight sequence with him and jack showed he had more control over his bugs and could actually attack with them
care to explain the bug plot from the games a bit if you know anymore about it?
He's got charm and charisma compared to some of the earlier villains. Like Crewelela, Evil Queen and Evil Stepmom had no charm, Hook was goofy, Maleficent had yet to reach her peak charm from being so old. Gaston was just a meat head,so really up till then we only had Jafar and Scar as rocking bad guys, who both had what Oggie had.
>Oogie Boogie was originally going to reveal to be Dr. Finkelstein in a costume, who fabricated the Oogie Boogie persona to get back at Jack and Sally, but this ending was scrapped
>Originally, in the movie, Oogie Boogie was going to be a disguised Finkelstein. Finkelstein, upon defeat, would admit that he was doing this because he was jealous that Sally chose Jack over him. This hints that Sally might have, originally, been more of a love interest of Finkelstein's rather than a daughter. This ending was changed as it came out of nowhere with a serious lack of any set-up. The producer, Tim Burton hated the idea so much, he reportedly kicked a hole in a wall after hearing it.
I copypasted these from the disney wiki just now, but they're unsourced there. I'll try to find an actual source and come back to you (there has to be a tim burton interview that mentions it).
I also recall the original song coreography had him doing more tricks with his bugs, like dancing and stuff.
fpbp
There's a voiced animatic of the scene on the Blu-ray release. Finkelstein rants about his motives and makes a big escape with Igor, and the whole time the others are just staring in mute WTF shock.
There was also originally some igor type assistant involved as well and the characters looking at one another like "what the hell was that all about?" moment. I'm glad they stuck with the idea we have today
>>Is one of Disney's most popular villains
Amongst who? 13 year old girls from 2011?
This
The GBA game had him trying to replace halloween with a bug-themed holiday, and also mentions he was originally what jack is to halloween and santa is to christmas but to a bug-based holiday that was forgotten. The PS2 devilmaycry-ish game had similar lore iirc.
He's also apparently a recurring villain in kingdom hearts but I've never played kingdom hearts so I wouldn't know.
this
speaking of which , why did no one tell me the villain song from wander over yonder was one of the top 10 best villain songs of all time?
though i prefer this cover desu:

no
If Ooogie Boogie is a sack filled with hundreds of bugs, where does his consciousness reside?
Basically.
In the sack.
I thought it was fairly clear the Oogie was that last bug that Santa stomped that mind-controlled the others to become a hive-mind in a bag.
I thought that too, but also, that bug looked like the last bug given to Oogie Boogie, so it has kept confusing me.
What he said The better question is how is his voice so deep?
French version of Oogie Boogie, because.

>kicks a hole in a wall
Id have done the same thing
Huh Ill have to get that bluray
Couldn't find a specific written source, but sure enough, as says, it is in the special edition DVD:

Minute 10:00
I have been watching it over and over for the past 5 minutes and I don't get used to it, I'm so fucking glad they scrapped it. The writing and the facial expressions feel like a parody sketch that you'd see in robot chicken. Having him be a hivemind is what makes it so that even to this day you can still see comments like about it, because it's so weird. Making him the doctor would have killed the magic forever.
Legion style hive mine all talking at the same time maybe?
I heard a different version that claimed they didn't have enough money to do that scene BECAUSE he kicked a hole in the wall.
Your version makes a lot more sense.
ew i never realized that
i hate oogie boogie so much more now
What I don't get is why they cut those other scenes like Jack scaring the kids. The movie's already short as fuck
>The producer, Tim Burton hated the idea so much, he reportedly kicked a hole in a wall after hearing it.
What happened to that passion?
His place in Kingdom Hearts feels like that guy who follows others around to be seen so they give him stupid jobs to keep him busy.
So is this before or after he gets lured by Sally's leg and the desire to tickle it?
