Don't think so much about it. The Manna story is much more compelling and much less toxic than the Starco story. That shit turned off longtime Starcofags from the ship, it was so bad. Manna is pure.

Same, Marco and Star's dynamic relationship was one of the best parts of the show, and once they got rid of it they lost a huge chunk of appeal. But strangely the writers didn't seem to have trouble with Marco and Janna. Sure he lost the safe kid attitude but he was still at odds with Janna's shady nature, which was more interesting than being Star's yesman/lackey.
