So why aren't The Reach and scarabs used more often in DC? Aren't they supposed to be this huge galactic empire that can rival The Green Lantern Corp with their WMD battle armor?
So why aren't The Reach and scarabs used more often in DC...
Scarab has a bad case of conservation of ninjitsu. One single scarab is a walking wmd. An army of them is stormtrooper tier
The reach a corporate entity of bug people, maybe they just cut their losses and decided not to invest in a planet with such bad returns.
Its probably because unless you need them specifically any other DC alien race will serve their role just fine
Because the reality is that these characters don't sell unfortunately, so you won't see writers interpreting the reach on a major scale. The concept of scarabs providing power on weaker species to become their worlds champion is cool, but I would see that as being an event, one that DC think is not worth investing.
I wish they were. They'd make an interesting foil to the GLC, but AFAIK that angle has never been explored very much.
>The Reach and Scarabs
How pathetic.
I was really sad when BB series ended. I'll always miss Negotiator. He was a cool guy.
>Aren't they supposed to be this huge galactic empire that can rival The Green Lantern Corp
No, they were a Galactic empire that tried to rival the GLC and lost, now they're on their last legs.
So exactly how Lanterns work
But shouldn't these guys be big over in the east?
I thought it was a stalemate, and that scarabs are on par with power rings?
>I thought it was a stalemate
No. They survived well enough, since the GLC is also battling several other galactic empires at the same time, but now all their tactics are focused on avoiding the GLC rather than facing them directly.
>scarabs are on par with power rings
Not at all, GL rings are recognized by pretty much everyone as the most powerful weapon in the universe. Potentially anyway, they take a significant amount of training and willpower to use the upper power level of the rings, while scarabs can provide their full power while essentially running on auto-pilot.
But I thought scarabs were superweapons that they dumped on planets to prepare them for invasion? Like, drop one off, it attaches to a local, and it decimates the population easy for the armada. Moreover how are they not a big deal when something like Darkstar/Blackstar weapons are a thing worthy to challenge Lanterns?
>But shouldn't these guys be big over in the east?
For Blue Beetle definitely not. If you are talking about the Kamen rider synergy then DC hasn't even reference or did their own version of them in the comics. The closest was Green Beetle in YJ, and when I meant "these characters" I mean Firestorm and Captain Atom tier relevance, which is none.
>But shouldn't these guys be big over in the east?
Why? Not like they don't have this kind of character already.
They are, but in the hands of a powerful enough Lantern, the rings can warp time and space, alter reality, and shrug off universal destruction.
Because the eastern market fucking loves Kamen Rider
I miss Green Beetle
Yeah but that's the exception, not the rule. Hal fucking becomes will itself, and certainly not the usual shit the meat of the GLC can do. I'm not shitting on power rings, they're remarkable weapons of limitless potential, I'm just saying scarabs can pull almost anything out of their ass too.
Yeah, so a kinda-kamen rider isn't gonna automatically be cool there since he has the real deal to compete with.
What said. Also their weaponry is limited to the extension of their limbs so creatively they are at a disadvantage. Also these scarabs are parasites which means the host is not the one in control which reduces combat diversity in their army. You don't see Jaime letting the scarab control him in fights.
If you give two randos a scarab and a ring, the scarab will win, yes. Scarab users require no training as their suits come with auto-pilot, and their weaponry can handle anything a basic Lantern grunt could put out, but the Green Lanterns horribly out scale scarabs at higher levels, plus their numbers are much greater and self replicating as each green lantern killed not only alerts the rest of them to the Reach's location, but creates a new green lantern from the nearby life forms.
The only reason the reach hasn't been wiped out is the GLC can't afford to spend all of their forces on chasing them down.
Jaime was the Carol Danvers of the DC Universe. NO ONE really liked him and even the TV folks kept bringing Ted back or (in the case of Smallville) wouldn't let Geoff do a Jaime episode unless Booster Gold was in it and in a more prominent role than Jaime (or even more embarassingly, in Brave and the Bold) dump Jaime first chance they could to push Aquaman of all people.....
That's the most backwards thing I've ever heard. Pretty much all of the few people who knew about him during his solo book's run were huge fans, but DC didn't want to push him that hard and they put him in very little outside his own book.
They are still not that amazing next to the Durlans, Khund, White Martians, New Gods, and the other remaining lantern corps. Much less the old Kryptonian empire.
Meanwhile Thanagarians still manage to keep most of their empire intact despite the other powers that be out there in the universe or the GLC telling them to stop it, and on their best day they might manage up to stormtrooper tier.
Then fucking killed interest when the nu52 started. That shit was terribad.
Well yeah, but there were only like 5 or 6 good books out of all 52.
What are the Reach and which comic series is it established? Thought the scarab was the original scarab mythical medailion?
Reminds me of Sideways!
Scarabs are highly advanced technology that morphs up guns and blades really quickly. Lantern rings are in that category where they are basically magic.
Welcome to the club blue beetle, Im johnny blaze, no one gives a fuck about me in marvel anymore.
