As much as I like Ash, I never understood the fact he was always a stereotypical highschool brat for all once he was on the panels. The arc from 153# to 154#, I feel, was supposed to redeem his obnoxiously jealous self, through one character development or another, like demonstrably justifying why he was like that all the time, or balancing his negatives with some redeeming qualities, or anything like so.
If that wasn't the idea, then I'm not sure what exactly was, as the aforementioned arc surely has failed make us feel any pity or empathy for Ash: he refused to support Mina and her remaining sticking feelings for Sonic, he was awfully unaware of Mina being in danger in one event and just kept obsessing with Sonic, he would reset instantly back to his usual self no matter the circumstances around him... frankly, I really don't see what good does Mina see on him. I'm not sure what was up with Bollers for opting exactly this flawed execution when he was writing (and that's unexpected from him, given that majority of his writing is solid, or at least, much better than Penders's).
I like the concept of a jealous immature manchild slowly unfolding into a new, better person, and I think Ash was just the perfect candidate for that. Unfortunately, though, this never came to light. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if there were some people who liked to imagine that Ash is abusive, and takes advantage of Mina only for her talent.
