Why do new shows have poor voiceacting?

Look at the power puff girl voices from 2017 compared to the old ones. Some shows still sound good, but whats up with the really dull voices in some of this new stuff specifically? Like Steven Universe, Hilda, craig of the creek and she ra. The voices aren't funny, they don't really have good quirks or inflections in their performances. Looney toons, Dexters lab, Invader Zim, these shows actually sound like cartoons.

And no, I don't care there's shows with good voice acting, I'm talking about new stuff that sounds boring, why are they dull? Are older voice actors just better overall?

Better question. Does anyone besides Zig Forums care or even notice?

>he voices aren't funny, they don't really have good quirks or inflections in their performances
Not everything has to sound wacky to be enjoyable.

Complacency
You're getting paid a lot with little risk of losing work, or you're a "celebrity" who can't voice act for life but it doesn't matter because them being in the series will give you views.

I miss when every character had a cartoony voice, now every character sounds like a real person. I understand making the characters sound real if I’m supposed to take the story seriously, but for a lot of this shit, its all for young audiences, and I want to hear some weird voices.

They don't have to be wacky user, they just need to be creative. And cartoons should sound like cartoons.

So you don't care about jokes or dialogue as long as long as the voices sound weird?

Is it though? Older actors like Tara Strong still deliver decent performances. Her batgirl voice is a little less distinct but she's still fun in my opinion

Whats the point of good dialogue if you can't deliver the lines well? Like how funny would Invader Zim be if all the characters sounded like ordinary people, and never exxagerated their speech?

This

the aesthetic just doesn't fit the sound when everyone sounds like a regular person. If your gonna have fun stylized designs, would it kill anyone to have the acting be stylized too?

>Are older voice actors just better overall?
I don't think so, Gumball and Summer Camp Island voice actors are literal kids and still way better than the trash voice acting of Anne and Luz from Amphibia and Owl House.

The new Transformers cartoon went with non-union VAs.

Also, directing can make or break most performers.

We started to hire real children to voice children. Hate the women that voice children.

Garnet has an incoherent voice actor a lot of the time, which I think is why she was so solemn and barely speaks in the first season. The rest of the cast sounds good though I can't actually even think of another example of a bad one putting their ability to sing aside. Blue Diamond's voice changes a lot but I don't think anyone wants her to sound different. SU might be a good example of good voice acting I like how distinct everyone sounds and don't hear them from other shows aside from Greg, who you can tell put more effort into his voice acting in SU than he did in AT.

I feel like your sense of humor is mostly reactionary.

Depends on the show, you can have funny humour even without dialogue, I'm just saying there's a lot of humour you can produce from voice acting that gets undermined by a boring performance.

They can be ok, but I'd say only peridot and maybe pearl really stood out. The rest have good performances, like they act well, but I didn't personally find their voices interesting, especially getting into the show. I feel like too many of the characters had to grow on me overtime.

But She Ra has some of the best voice acting in recent times.

Good acting, but I can't even remember what their voices sounded like.

>forgetting Shadow Weaver's voice
Bruh.

usually chalk it up to the direction.

i feel like they do less takes now, sometimes i get the vibe they usually do the first or second take before moving on the next line delivery.

Pearl's voice actor does a pretty great job with her I feel

steven was bearable initially, but dear god his second VA is like nails upon a chalkboard

It’s always been Zach. He just had to shift his voice because Zach hit puberty and finally talked normal after the original ended

evidently... huh

>incoherent
I've heard monotone and inexpressive, but I've never heard that one before. What makes you say that? Garnet's generally crystal clear, with like one exception:
I'INRITETHAT

Initial Steven sounded like a drowning fat kid. I couldn't handle that shit

This.

Aah, to be fair I forgot about shadow weaver, she was entertaining

>incoherent
Her British accent slips through a little sometimes, but I’ve personally never had a problem understanding what Garnet says.

Steven Universe and Hilda have great voice acting and your notion of what a cartoon should be is very outdated.

What confuses me is why is it that modern anime dubbing is so bad when voice acting in modern American animation is [generally] so good?

Smetimes dull is funny. Like a dull NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
