Is it wrong that I enjoyed all the crappy tie-in cartoons for Nintendo games from the 80s and 90s? They were comfy and fun.

I like them too, they're goofy and have fun storylines, just don't think the cartoons are cannon or have any bearing at all on their franchises.
It sucks that the metroid show was never made. I woud've loved that one.

I mean Mario has no canon at all, it's just bing bing wahoo. Zelda constantly shifts the timeline to some new era or alternate hyrule. Nintendo are pretty clever at avoiding canonicity issues.

Nah, it's good stuff.
Nintendo is too over protective.

They're genuinely fun in their own way. If you're looking for accuracy from the material or something groundbreaking you're looking in the wrong place, but they're charming for what they are.

how many times do I have to repeat myself goddamn, you don't need my approval to enjoy things, son

Super Show and the Zelda cartoon aren't that bad. Plus, I didn't grow up with them. I think the Zelda show was a bit better when it came to an animated series, but the live-action Mario skits are the best part of Super Show, the animated parts of that show were just okay. The Mario World cartoon, on the other hand, just is not good, one episode (Mama Luigi) doesn't save a whole show. But, when it came to video game adaptations, my favorite Nintendo-based one is Kirby: Right Back at Ya!/Hoshi no Kabi, and my overall favorite video game adaptation was Bomberman Jetters.

What about Cave Christmas tho

Nah, I like them too. Not every cartoon has to be a masterpiece, sometimes mindless stuff like this is fun.

Meh, that episode was alright. I think the show would've been more tolerable if that stupid Oogtar wasn't there and if Yoshi wasn't babyfied.

No. Besides i loved the "Excuse me, princess" quote from Link. youtube.com/watch?v=FPxY8lpYAUM

>Don't ask, I just decided to combine Link's infamous catchphrase from the 1989 Zelda American cartoon into one clip. Although I was surprised how often he says it and there's only 13 episodes in total! Warning: Extremely annoying.

>Wow, over 1,000,000 views! Thank you! ^^

Yes but remember. Oogtar backwards is Ratgoo

Commas are your friend.

Daily.

Don't let the fact that Dobson prefers them over the video game versions ruin them for you. There's genuine and campy fun to be had.

Wasn't a fan of the Zelda cartoon but I still love the Mario Bros cartoon and it's one of the first that pops in my head when I think of them

I loved how much of a jackass Link was.

Reminder that Oogtar was originally going to be named Bartzan because they wanted to cash in on the Simpsons.

Sneedzan

I like the Zelda one, even the bad episodes are still fun to watch.

The mario ones seem to be hit or miss. Some are okay, but some are just too weird or just consist of 15 minutes of nonsense. It doesn't always work. Sometimes I wish they just kept it to a standard Mario adventure and did not try so hard to be a parody of a movie.

Was that meant to be a part of the super show at the time? Or something else like the Mega Man show?

This is why I liked the Mario 3 show a little more. It was just a regular Mario having adventures in the mushroom kingdom show and not movie parody of the day. If they kept things a little more generic it might have worked out better.

all i can say is the mario theme song is 10/10 and I love the use of the mastersword-energy shot SFX in the zelda cartoon.

They weren't any crappier than other shows airing at the same time, and I'm old enough to have grown up with them. I lost my fucking mind when I saw a Super Show VHS in a store, and I'd never seen the show before and I'd never even played a game with him, but I begged my parents for it. It only had two episodes (live action segments removed) but I watched it like 100 times. idk what exactly was going on with Nintendo and Sega's marketing back then, but I was already obsessed with Mario and Sonic before actually playing their games or seeing their shows.

Can I get a source on this. Just want to share with friends.

they were pretty open with mario for quite a while, in japan and abroad. curry commercials, cereal, the cartoons, there was an old anime movie that's pretty dumb

it's mostly the feature film that changed them to being super protective of their branding.

Interview with one of the writers.

Not anymore. They tried to fit all of Zelda together like a wonky tangram, the results of which were entirely idiotic.
Woulda been better if they did as Final Fantasy does: few main series games are related. 4 and RotM are. VII, DoC and CC are. X and X-2 are. XII and RW are (also Tactics, IINM). XIII and XIII-2 are. And that's it.
The only Zelda games which should be directly related are tLoZ and AoL, LttP and LA, OoT and MM and OoA and OoS. Possibly also MC and FS. I believe that's it. Trying to connect tLoZ with LttP, OoT and MC is an exercise in stupidity but Ninty did it anyway.

I was unaware there was a Bomberman cartoon.
Castlevania is a bit tryhard, but not terrible. Have you ever seen the Mario OVA? I never have, but I wanna.

The mere idea of a Mario cartoon existing was enough to blow my mind as a kid, I remember seeing a DVD of the show in Toys R Us and just being happy to see the characters on screen talking in full sentences. I still miss those paisanos
