What is the greatest Superman run of all time and why is it John Byrne's
No
Yes
It's one of the best, but its not the best. It's just consistently very good and occasionally great. It's probably the best Post-Crisis run in terms of writing quality. I think Ed Hamilton, Cary Bates, Elliot S Maggin and the Grant Morrison Action Comics run are all better though.
He's not even in the top 10. The Man of Steel mini is a pretty decent if formulaic origin retelling but his ongoing stories are just mostly kinda bland.
I will come to your house and draw porn of your wife
The era right after Byrne left, when all the Superman series were treated like one weekly book, was the best period of Superman. The Death of Superman was stupid but the rest of the story was good up until blue vs red came up.
That being said most of the best Superman stories aren't really part of runs.
The worst thing Byrne did was implement the idea that Darkseid was a Superman villain. That a being like Darkseid would give a shit about Superman is a hilarious devaluation of his character
>The era right after Byrne left, when all the Superman series were treated like one weekly book, was the best period of Superman.
Sure if you mean the stuff with Stern & Ordway but when it became the triangle era with Jurgens Simonson etc it became a bit of a mess and a lot of it was average or bad. I'm just going to say it too Jurgens is a shitty writer with some decent ideas but fuck me he is awful, going to one of his issues in that weekly period from another writer is always jarring
>want to conquer earth
>need to get rid of Earths strongest champion
I don't see the problem about Darkseid giving a shit, but yeah he is used as a Supes/JL villain too much
mainly this, but Superman: legends was good.
Silver age era under Mort Weisinger's editorial was the best Superman run. Later good stories like For the man who has everything and All Star Superman were just remakes of this era of Superman. For the man who has everything was heavily inspired by pic related.
As Morrison described him, he was a common man on a Paul Banyan scale during this time, rather than a generic as possible capeshitter. His stories would revolve around him facing things which were of emotional level and he just couldn't punch away from the situations he found himself in.
Darkseid doesn't want to conquer earth. That's just a way for him to get the anti-life equation, parts of which are hidden in the minds of earthlings. Once he has that the universe will all bend to him anyway. Earth itself doesn't matter to him at all except as another source of slaves.
I wouldn't say man who has everything was a remake, Superman made a choice to abandon his kryptonian family, in return to krypton he just happened to be in a rocket that got blown away from krypton at the end
Elliot S Maggin’s two Superman novels released in 1977 and 1978 are the best Superman run of all time. And they’re fucking books.
Is it canon
Is anything really canon anymore? Or do you need a team of sweaty fat middle aged people about to be laid off to tell you the true chronological timeline of the Detective Comics Comics universe. Just enjoy the stories man.
That run was shit.
It made everything so painfully grounded that it got rid of Superman's mythos.
>Superman doesn't actually fly or have super strenght, it's just gravitation field
>Superman is really the last kryptonian, Supergirl is from another universe and so Zod, Faora and Quex Ul.
>Superman is so strong because he is a kryptonian's mutant because Jor El needed to modify his genetic structure to leave krypton.
>Kryptonians can't leave Krypton and that's why Kal was the only
>Brainiac is circus guy because aliens are unrealistic
>Luthor is good
Kys Boomer silver age dc is shit and doesn’t even come close to what Marvel was putting out in the same era
No
>What marvel was putting out
Sure thing true reliever. Revolutionizing capeshit by making Peter Parker punching Electro for twenty pages and the rest of then crying for Aunt May's medicine. Stan Lee was a hack pandering to the masses with mindless and cheap trash.
>>need to get rid of Earths strongest champion
>Superman
>Earth's strongest anything
top kek
Forgot pic
Something like 4 or 5 of the threads in the catalog are resposts. For a second I thought Zig Forums broke some time I was asleep and wouldn’t refresh. Nope, just a bunch of faggot OPs.
I would like DC to return with Superman of the golden age in the next reboot
Zoomers don't know this Superman and how he would defeat Doomsday and Darkseid without much effort
>DC
>canon
lol
>Superman is really the last kryptonian
Other stuff is shit but this is good.
based
It wasn't a remake, but Moore had said that it was the inspiration behind for the men who has everything. Both were about Superman accepting how fate. In return to Krypton, Superman wants to save his planet and lover, but has to learn to live with what he has.
I legit dig Kryptonian fashion. I want shoulder fins and a headband.
how can you say this but claim silver age superman is worth reading when only the covers were?
Because, like you, he’s shitposting.
Wasn't Darkseid's first appearance in a Superman comic Kirby wrote, I think Superman even tried to stop him in that issue
nah silver age comics are nearly entirely garbage written for illiterate children and no matter how many first appearances they contain or top10 lists that revere them, that shit is a chore to read
