Thats not entirely true. Aquaman got a substantial bump from being compared to Black Panther. People liked BP, and Aquaman looked like that but underwater, and people were like "Yeah, I'll watch that".
Obviously its impossible to prove, but I think that if Aquaman had come out before BP it would have done much worse.
