Except they don't, don't let Alex Ross' art confuse you. Most of them are using updated costumes, and in any case, Ross is notorious for using classic costumes of his own choosing, just look at the covers for Captain America and how he actually looks in the series.

No one who actually likes old Carol had any particular attachment to her costume. Most people who complain about it being gone never cared about the character outside of pinup and cheesecake art.
However, let's be fucking honest here, Marvel is barely making even the slightest pretense that this version of Carol is the same as the old one. There's no point even getting mad about it at this point. It's a new character with the same name, something pretty typical for comics.
