Why did Psylocke go from reserved, conservatively dressed british heroine to super-slutty thirsty asian ninja? Like I read the story and I understand it was the 90s and fanservice was the rule but why this, in particular? Why not just introduce a new character? They were doing that all the time in that period (Gambit, Bishop, Cable etc) to fill other roles.
And why the fuck did it take 30 years to reverse this nonsense?

It took a character who was irrelevant and made her popular for the first time ever. Popular changes in big 2 comics are the ones that tend to last.

Chris changed her into a ninja in Act of Vengeance, and iirc wanted to revert to normal after the storyline, but then going from generic telepath to psychic ninja is pretty fucking good upgrade, so he kept her like this.
Then no fun allowed people came in reverted her back to brit.

in this issue goes from being a blonde british girl to adult in a span of a panel, then gets greeted by storm and gets a makeover (some goo is poured over her face and remolded), you see 'mojo' type servants doing this. then asian-thot psylock is born. then again all of this was a mind manipulation by the mandarin using is 10 rings so he could use her on wolverine, but then wolverine flipped the script and broke her mind free. but not before mandarin poked her eyes out, but in the end you see 'mojo' servants 'give' her a pair of eyes magically.

Nobody wanted this change. All the X-fags that I know liked her as an Asian women. Everybody outside comics fans identify her as the sexy ninja telepath.
Because, sexyness and leotard aside, she became unique. I don't think a ninja with psychic powers was made before. Also the psi blade is such a cool power, everyone liked it.
