The fact that the writers had to change "Moe's" to "Moe's Bar" and Rainier Wolfcastle to Schwarzenegger says everything about how confident they were that the audience would "get" the jokes.
As if anyone who bought a ticket for this wasn't familiar with The Simpsons.
Also it was funny reading the hype about how the old writers were working on the movie as a subtle way of admitting the show had been trash for years.

Saw it a lot when I was younger, we had it on DVD. Would have been neat to see it in a theater. I didn't notice until I was older how absolutely shitty the 2D animation was sometimes.
