In an event where Lu Ten lived and Iroh won the Seige of Ba Sing Se and has become Fire Lord of the world, how would Team Avatar be destined to meet each other? Let's say it starts thr same year Sozin's Comet returns
In an event where Lu Ten lived and Iroh won the Seige of Ba Sing Se and has become Fire Lord of the world...
Well if he defeated bad sing say he would’ve won the war pretty much and the only conflict in the current year would be rebel factions. It’s written that’s hes not crazy like his brother and his conquests and participation in the war probably was more of sense of obligation and upholding family honor. He wouldn’t of used the regarded butn everything method Ozai wanted. It depends on how he’d govern, the main 3 would still meet because the southern tribe is isolated. But as for toph, suki, etc. it’s up in the air
Iroh becomes the "Governor" of all Ba Sing Se along with Lu Ten
Iroh and Ozai would have had a blowup at some point and Ozai would end up banished trying to start a coup.
He’d be like Ghengis Khan.
I imagine Iroh wouldn't have had the same plans for the comet as Sozin had. I'm sure the war would mostly just be over by the time the show starts
It would be more about Team Avatar assembling a resistance not to prevent a world dominion, but take it down.
Iroh was less empathetic before his son died, so he would probably be more tyrannical than he ever appears in the show.
But perhaps he's more of a noble enemy than Ozai was? Striking down upon occupying generals that would misuse their power to hurt the poor locals. This way, he might justify himself more than Ozai did.
"when my armies took this city it was a dystopian hellhole ripe with brainwashed citizens that dared not even speak of the war, as they starved and their nobles ate themselves fat. Now we have distributed their economy so it better suits the lower classes that no longer need go hungry. Sure, i waged a lot of destruction to capture the city, but have i not made life better for its' people? Am i truly such a horrific villain?"
He protected the Dragons befire the Siege
Zuko would be a much fiercer opponent. He would be unshakeably loyal to iroh, he wouldnt be conflicted at all since he would only see the peace and progress achievved by the fire nation and he would be a lot more confident and emotionally stable since his mom wouldnt have abandoned him and his father wouldnt have punished him. He would probably be a much bigger threat since he could summon all the powers of the fire nation due to not being exiled
I don't think Iroh ascending to the throne would have made Ozai love his son more. if anything bitterness at losing his chance at the throne might've made him more abusive
True, but he also said he might burn Ba Sing Se to the ground so there is nothing left of it once he wins
I covered the part about him not being absolutely horrifying, but i still do think he would be more tyrannical if he had gone from the conqueror he once was, to the fire lord he was meant to be.
It's just difficult to balance it, cause as you point out, he was not completely heartless even before his son died, but he was a destructive conqueror none the less.
I tried to balance that by making him justify the reign he holds as liberating the locals from outdated oppressive regimes
It could be quite interesting as a philosophical plot. What's more oppressive, locals that keep you in the dirt, or foreigners that make your life better but still aim to control you in ways you don't understand?
well ursa would still be there and i dont think ozai, as abusive as he might have been, would have had an excuse to burn zuko's face, i just dont see iroh allowing that as a fire lord no matter what. and even if it did happen i could see iroh banishing his brother afterwards
Ozai would probably never love Zuko, but their relationship would be better yeah. Agree with regarding Iroh as an enemy. His first action would probably be to go and talk with the avatar, leaving Aang pretty confused as to what the hell to do.
man i kind of really want to see this now, one complaint i always had was that ozai was always kind of a flat villain. imagine the gaang having to fight against a calm and seemingly wise leader who can actually make good arguments despite being a despot
Pretty much this. Sozin and Azulon were canonically both known for their military successes, and as a career soldier I imagine Iroh would have governed in the same vein as his father and grandfather, unlike Ozai who was a spoiled bending prodigy and mentally unstable.
He definitely had more of a heart of iron prior to his son's death, so I could perceive him as a benevolent tyrant in the vein of Tito or Park Chung Hee or Lee Kuan Yew.
Amy fanfic with this premise?
seconded, im also interested, otherwise ill have to write one my own
Thirded. I too would like to see this.
>more than blood can stand
in fan fiction dot net
>mandate of heaven
archive of our own
found these two, the first one is the longest one, neither of them seem to be about iroh's son not diying but rather ozai dying in one ofrm or another and iroh becoming firelord through that
no idea about their quality, havent read them yet
Pretty much nailed it. I can also see Iroh as being the type who would rather try and convince the Avatar diplomatically that Fire Nation control is for the best, rather than trying to hunt down and kill him. If anything he'd treat Aang as an honored guest, and even upon Aang obviously disagreeing with the Fire Nation's position, would be respectful towards him while not backing down from his own beliefs.
Also, I don't see Ozai taking Iroh being Fire Lord lightly. No doubt that he would be trying to find a way to get rid of him or subvert his rule to gain power. I can even see him going after Lu Ten (while framing it as water benders or something) knowing that he's a weak point for Iroh.
Me againAs i outline in my next post it would be extremely difficult for the avatar to justify taking down a ruler such as Iroh would have been, and i don't really think it's a question i've seen brought up in fiction, and can't imagine it being portrayed in a children's show.
The makers would probably have either done some twist where it turns out Iroh's good heart is just a lie to get people's support, or conclude that "foreign rule is bad even though it makes their lives better just because", which would probably make a lot of people think of Aang as the villain.
But i have another solution
With the war being over, and Iroh trying to have a good relationship with his new subjects, and improve their lives, i can imagine he would demilitarize, at least somewhat. This would probably give some of his generals a lower status, and not everyone would be happy about that.
Season 1 could be about Aang struggling to decide if it is right to overthrow a rule that is better than its' predecessors, and ends with one area of the occupied Earth Kingdom seceding, and starting a Civil War.
The conclusion could be that even if the regime was better, such a large and force-built system would sooner or later lead to someone less benevolent seizing power.
>and ends with one area of the occupied Earth Kingdom seceding, and starting a Civil War.
BTW, i meant the secession is lead by a Fire Nation general, such as Zhao or something
Ozai would probably also try to take control somehow at one point
katara and sokka were taken away to be fire nation prisoners, but katara met hama and they broke out with bloodbending. hama becomes like her morally dubious uncle iroh. they go back to the south pole to look for sokka and her father, and end up finding aang. they go to find sokka, and rescue him. aang is, incidentally, still very attracted to evil katara.
I think Ozai had his men kill Lu Ten and blame it on the earth soldiers to secure his own place on the throne.
I'm writing one as well, it's only recently started, but it's basically with Ozai dead and Azula searching for the avatar after an unofficial banishment. Bumi and northern watertibe are still around and slowly losing the war. Haven't really gotten to that, but I've established the plot and am moving onto the occupied earth kingdom
>Iroh is in Ba Sing Se to see how the development is going
>Has invited Governor Zhao of the northern colony for a dinner visit
>Iroh informs of his plans to demilitarize "your army will be completely disbanded by the end of the year"
>"What? You can't do that! How will we hold control over these earth kingdom savages? What will i do if i am without my army?"
>It will be fine Governor. You can find a home a wife, and settle down. Live your life as a free man"
>Zhao is still displeased, but does not speak up
>A local school is putting on a stage show in honor of the visiting Fire Lord
>The teacher accidentally says something out of line, corrects herself, Iroh laughs it off
>"Are you going to accept that? They speak out of line to your face!"
>"Oh, i'm sure she meant nothing. And it's really not that bad. If i were to burn everyone that insulted me, i would have no subjects left"
>Cut to Zhao back in his camp with his army
>"Has the fire lord completely forgotten that we are the reason he can reside in the Earth Castle, and play stupid games with their kids in the first place? He means to disband us, and what of our spoils of war? He has gotten soft! These people should be worshiping him. Have we not proven ourselves stronger than all of them? We should be their superiors in every possible way! Instead he lets the street rats speak to him as if he's one of them.
>Army cheers
>"Any disrespect dealt to him is a disrespect against the entire Fire Nation. He is no longer worthy of ruling, so perhaps he -is- a street rat?"
Wouldn't surprise me since he immediately pulled the "Iroh's child is dead and his line has ended but my line is still strong" card as soon as word reached the capital. No way was someone that quick to jump at a chance for the throne going to just sit back and let his brother take it without contention.
>a street rat
Do they even have regular rats in the Avatar universe? Wouldn't it be something more like a Beetle-Rat or a Bat-Squirrel?
Well, i guess so. But what did you think of that text other than that?
I'd say lizard rat, or maybe spider rat
Are you kidding. Katara is made concubine to the "walking Namking" Iroh, who canonically associated with rapists and murders. This man would have a harem of funny as firelord
Fine, but do you have any thoughts on the text i made?
The point is that even with a benevolent ruler, a heavily militarized regime which is built on proving to other people that "we are stronger than you" will not work, because the military will see the ruler's benevolence as weakness
