How is Laika still alive?

Seriously, their last movie that had any profit was Coraline if i'm not wrong. These films look extremely expensive to make and yet they are all box office failures, how do they keep going?

Nike pet project money

Is Missing Link and Box Trolls worth watching?

Black People
No

Paranorman was good. I can't say I've seen any of the others.

The dude running it is the CEO of nike's kid.

This. The guy behind Laika is the son of one of the co-founders of Nike. It's a billionaire indulging their kid's desires, only instead of being a trampy 'socialite' they make expensive stop-motion feature films.

Well..... i guess that explains everything
Boxtrolls is alright, nothing special. i think it's better than Kubo, at least. Haven't seen Missing Link yet (looks gorgeous tho)

You people act like all they make are movies. Don't they also do a bunch of commercials and outsource work?

Pretty based

At least we get mostly alright movies

Coraline was obviously amazing, but ParaNorman is also up there. Kubo was kind of meh despite the amazing visuals, which was really disappointing and Box Trolls had some cool ideas and moments but overall wasn't too interesting. I did not see Missing Link because it looked fucking awful.

The Boxtrolls has to be the most unpleasant looking stop-motion film I ever seen.

Kubo>>Coraline>>>Paranorman>>>Missing Link>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Boxfaggots

Missing link is cute.
Box Trolls is their worst movie by a long shot.

Title character can be a little annoying, but Missing Link was a charming enough old-timey adventure movie.

Literally billionaire’s hobby (son of Nike’s CEO is Laika’s founder). Both are based as fuck and money is not an issue.
One of the few cases where good won.

Nightmare Before Christmas = Coraline > or = Paranorman (storywise) > Kubo (visually) >>>>>>>>Missing Link

>3 white, 1 asian and 1 black
At least they are diverse

Which one's the black one? The box troll?

Yeah, he always looked like a hapa black to me

I didn't realize there was so much hate for Kubo. I haven't watched it since I saw it in theaters, but I remember absolutely loving it. Why do people dislike it?

Who would pay to go see missing Link?
Its commercials were in theaters for more than a year, and they told the entire plot.

Kubo was pretty good. Haven't seen Missing Link or Boxtrolls.

Plot is a mess
The ending nonsense
I see how it would make a better impression in theaters though

Why do they try so hard to distance themselves with the anime asthetic when they can get way more money that way?

Doll technology is cheaper than CGI, OP.

They end up pushing the boundaries of stop motion animation with pretty much every film they release. Box office success or not, I hope they're able to continue their work as long as possible. Certainly more interesting than another CGI featuring smirking assholes.

Source? If stop motion were cheaper I think we'd see much more of it.

Most people love it, even here. It’s just a few autists.

>kids in the third world make sneakers so that kids in the first world can watch movies
Huh
