New Megg Mogg and Owl book came out today and I’m waiting for my copy to eventually arrive in the mail, so why not make a thread. The new book says it’s a collection of strips from various sources so I’m hoping it’ll include stuff that hasn’t already been compiled by Zig Forums.
One thing I noticed was that Mogg is described as abusive in several “about this book” blurbs such as in online ads and such. Would anyone else describe him as such? He often is lazy and uncaring, but that’s about par for the entire cast. He also didn’t cheat with anyone, as far as I know, unlike Megg or WWJ or Booger.
He's not abusive he's just a lazy shitcunt. It's Megg who cheats on him and tried to ditch him only to be embarrassed into backpedaling when he actually seems to try for once.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but what's the word on if the current IG coronavirus arc will be collected in the next volume? It kind of feels like something that would go in the next Stems & Seeds grab-bag compilation, but it's also topical enough that it'd seem dated if Hanselmann waits like five years to publish it. I like to read MM&O in book form, so I haven't really been keeping up with the latest postings.

Funny but very true. I think I remember reading something where Hanselmann was talking about all the WWJ tattoos people have shown him and part of me is horrified that people identify so strongly with him. Like I get the appeal of an unrestrained id but he is a horrible, horrible person.

I think it goes back to the ways people interpret art. Like, for (I assume) you guys and me, he's an entertaining trainwreck somewhere along the lines of an "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" character or something-- a humorous combination/extrapolation of all the worst qualities in real-life dirtbags we come across in life. But you just know--especially as MMO gets more and more popular--that there are people out there going "oh man, what a wild dude. He's so cool and savage! I unironically identify with him!" As a creator, the knowledge that you're probably encouraging a small part of the population to become even worse humans has got to be scary.
I remember reading that Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys used to do Nazi salutes and goose-step on stage while performing "California Uber Alles", because it's a satirical song about ultra-liberal CA governor Jerry Brown and he was sure his audience would get the joke. But then he started seeing actual Nazis show up to gigs and start sieg heiling during the song, and it disturbed him so much that not only did he stop doing those stage antics, he wrote "Nazi Punks Fuck Off."

I have read the books, which is why I asked the question. I was curious why he got the label of abuser when, as other people have pointed out, the whole cast has been horrible and he hasnt done the same level of shit as say WWJ.
Someone in this thread also reminded me of the Owl rape, which I had forgot about, but that wasn't just him doing it either.

a) fuck jello b) Who cares. I've already said my piece on Simon and how, despite being a degen himself and writting degen comics, I respect him a lot. To summarise, he doesn't pull punches, agrandise or even sympathise with his characters beyond intimating who they are and how they've got that way. Everyone in the comic is who they are and there's no getting away from that. He's not 'pro-transexual' but rather, these people exist and here's how they often live and the problems they grapple with. The fact that his own community reeeeees out about his depiction of whatever sub-section from time to time proves my point. MMO is a fascinating character study. There are no heroes or characters you're supposed to relate to. Relating to a character is a warning sign. A lot of Zig Forums relates to Owl, the rest hate him. Simon relates to Megg and some posters have even related to Mogg. None of these are positive comparisons - you're meant to go, 'how can I be LESS like that person'
Read the non-published stuff I guess. But you're right in that others are cunts too. Megg is the least (despite also being horrible) then you get Mogg who shits in his food and WWJ who rapes him. Seriously where is the link to all the unpublished stuff? Zig Forums used to read it all the time
