He absolutely was and its kind of retarded how many willingly miss that. Optimus already had to deal with untold amounts of years worth of misery and sacrifice with the war, not to mention all of the comrades he has lost alongside the very small amount of survivors that made up his team and even dying himself, but for Megatron who was also dead and his mentor Sentinel to team up and do something that would destroy both of his homes either way. If coming back from the dead and seeing Prime annihilating Fallen like it was nothing didn’t get Megs to change face, odds are that truce was just for him to try and spin terms for his own end. Prime didn’t start ripping faces off until that kind of shit started to happen, because at that point it became clear Decepticons had no intentions of actually making peace and only tried to push it so Prime didn’t personally ream them a new aft.

I think if someone directly responsible for the destruction of your once peaceful and advanced planet and by extension the likely eventual extinction of your kind is also trying to destroy another home you have made after killing you, they have officially lost face privileges and any sort of high ground to stand on. Megatron only offered peace when it became clear Prime was beyond done with him, even though he could have said “you know what fuck this war shit I’ve had enough” after getting revived. Hell he only attacked Sentinel because HE wanted to rule instead, not because he was turning a new leaf.
Its a good bit of character development too. Optimus was forced to face the reality that not everyone is good or even capable of being on that path, which makes defending those who are all the more important. He didn’t just start blasting random civilians or friends either, he went straight to the source of what is basically turning your kind into some sort of zombie and didn’t even kill anyone then until his one friend was about to get shot in the face. And really how else is he supposed to deal with that kind of shit? Just keep gently asking them to stop it because its not nice to those who will clearly not stop unless forced to?

Bay could have given us a comics accurate Sunstreaker, who lets people die because doing so might ruin his beautiful paint job.
Bafflingly, he created two shitty Autobot comedy characters, but did not use Runamuck and Runabout, two actually funny Decepticon goofballs, instead creating the generic, boring "Dreads". Runamuck and Runabout, who love to blow shit up, are literally Bay in robot form.
