Simpsons are white but they're Yellow, while everyone else is just brown or a lighter yellow.

Yes all the black people I know have a stench to them. Even my black friends. I live near a ghetto so I know a lot of them, and they smell like grease

So what you are actually asking is "why do poor people smell bad." The answer is that poorer people often do not have access to education and resources that lead to proper hygiene. I grew up around many well off black people and they had no difference in their smell to any white person. Go to a trailer park and smell the people there and see what their aroma is like.

So using Yellow people as the default emoji/lego means that you're saying White is the default.
Being white is racist against non-whites.
I guess in their twisted logic they think simpsons is saying "Carl is Black, Apu is Brown, and Lenny is Normal." instead of what it actually is, "Carl is Black, Apu is Brown, Lenny is White".

All in all, it's kind of funny because yellow as the default for Emoji's comes from the fucking yellow-smile-button from the 1960's, which predates simpsons and lego people by a long shot and has absolutely nothing to do with being white, who looks at pic related and goes "Look how happy that white fellow is."

The worst part is you can't even argue that thought because they just say "umm even if it wasn't originally about that, it is NOW so it should be stopped." which can be said about anything now. Hell Zig Forums memed that the "Okay" handsign is actually a secret handsign for white power as a joke, and 6 months after the joke was so succesful that "Even if the Okay sign never had anything to do with white power, it does NOW because people are using it that way, and so it's now problematic and wrong and racist."

I think the biggest offender I saw, was a cosplayer dressed as Starfire getting absolutely slaughtered on Tumblr for cosplaying Starfire, because the Titans series has this orange skinned alien chick portrayed by a black actress, so any attempt to cosplay starfire is by default announcing that you think that the black actress isn't good which means you're saying blacks are bad.

They chose yellow because it's only one of the 5 (6 if you include transparent) colors they had at the time, that really worked for a skin tone. Black didn't work since their printing used black as a base, so most details would be lost.
Blue had the same problems as black, being a rather dark color, though not to the same extreme.
Red was their most used color, so it would have clashed with a lot of other bricks.
White was the primary "wall color" used in a lot of buildings. White was used as skin color on very early Duplo figures, since switched place in how often they where used for Duplo specifically, so it would stand out more.
Yellow was really only used as a accent color, so it was relatively rare among other bricks, it was light enough to easily print on, and it didn't look like any particular human race, so it was more easy for most people to see them as "just people".
LEGO only started having problems with the yellow skin tone when licensed themes, like Star Wars, Harry Potter, and the Sports line became a thing, since now the figures had established races. It's why all licensed themes have been using natural skin colors since 2004, since they specifically didn't want yellow to be or become a stand in for "white".
FFS, the native islanders of the Pirates theme, and the Indians of the Western theme had yellow skin too.
