I enjoyed TMNT. Astro Boy was terrible though.
>We could've gotten Gatchaman
>We could've gotten Tetsujin 28
>We could've gotten Legend of Zelda
Gone far too soon.
If I’m not mistaken, didn’t Gatcha eventually get a 3D movie?
I liked Astro Boy. It was charming, if a little childlish
They had a serious case of reusing the same art direction film to film and it would have gotten extremely tiring if they'd continue. That being said while I enjoy TMNT 2007 it's a very flawed film and Astro boy is only enjoyable for being extremely weird. There was a reason this studio failed and it was completely understandable why.
Stone was a pretty fun Bush parody tho
It had the right idea, and had some great franchises to adapt, but their movies were bad. They needed much better writers.
Guaranteed none of those would’ve been more than mediocre, because TMNT and Astro Boy were both plagued with shit writing and story pacing.
No he wasn’t. He was obnoxiously on the nose, as was the red/blue energy stuff. All of his dialogue was “muh votes.”
Pleasently surprised that the character designer was argentinian. He later did designs for Arthur Christmas and Hotel Transylvania ( you can definitely see the similarities )
>the red/blue energy stuff
Call me a dumbass but i didn't get that metaphor. Care to explain it ?
The Astro Boy movie was a weird case where I liked the ideas it presented much more than the execution. It could've been legitimately great had it leaned in and focused on the existential aspect of the premise.
Also it has the most sympathetic version of Tenma to date.
Bush stand in wanted the red energy, while blue was the good energy. Call me Zig Forums or whatever, but considering it was slapped on top of an obvious Bush stand in, and republican is generally red...
Also there’s plenty of villains they could’ve used, but they made up a shitty one instead.
It got a live-action movie.
>most sympathetic version of Tenma
That was intentional. Director didn't like the 2003 show, so he wanted a different approach, including humanizing Tenma
Astro Boy was pretty meh. I still like it but not enough to call it good.
The 2003 show was good, and a lot better than his movie.
Still liked it. Hard to dislike something so sincere. Shame it came out only a few months after fucking Evolution, since nobody wanted to see more anime adaptations after that
At least the film shows Tobio's death. Didn't care much for the show. It did give us an amazing GBA game tho
>the 2003 show
Word of advice : avoid the PS2 game by Sonic Team. Don't make my mistake
I've got machine guns, in my butt?
Not surprised that character designer came straight out of Ratatouille. He looks like Ego
Urrgh dear god I fucking hate when the west bastardizes anime.
>At least the film shows Tobio's death
You must've watched the 2003 dub, which botched the show beyond repair
>I've got rockets
>in my butt?
literally the only thing I can remember
You gotta admit, this is a pretty sweet looking cover. Probably one of my fav in CG animation
He's kind of like Mickey mouse in that his head points don't work/look very good in 3d, iirc they're actually inspired by how the mickey's ear alignments
>They needed much better writers.
This.
Gatchaman was so going to be a flop. If Astro couldn't find an audience, then i seriously doubt Gatchaman would. Besides, they were already struggling financially before Astro, so production would've been a total mess
Come to think of it, Imagi reminds me of that company which made Jimmy Neutron and Ant Bully : They had a modestly successful first film, yet their second film flopped so hard that they went bankrupt, leaving several projects cancelled. It's the same situation really
I liked the show because it emphasized Astro less as a superhero and more as a kid trying to do good.
It wouldn’t have helped that Gatchaman would’ve most likely been mediocre to bad. Like was said before, Imagi had bad writers. TMNT and Astro Boy had a lot to work with but ended up weak, so as good as the show was Gatchaman wouldn’t have been different.
