AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Showrunner Jed Whedon Talks About Scrapped Ideas For The Series

>"We had a lot of ideas where we were—and I’ll say this, I don’t care—we were given the green light originally to use certain characters from Marvel, and started to break story based on those characters — MODOK — and then they retracted it," Jed Whedon said of Marvel Studios. "So there were a bunch of things that were going to get a little batshit crazy that were above our pay grade, in terms of the toys we were allowed to play with. We also tried S.W.O.R.D. early in the series and we were shut down."

>"There were talks about Sousa having to do a detour undercover as a cop to fight in the streets during THE AVENGERS because Enver Gjokaj was in that film as a police officer, but there was enough timeline problems."

How many times has the MCU tried to do MODOK, yet never got around to it? You keep hearing stuff about directors and producers wanting to use him, yet never do

>Jed Whedon
really?

I keep hearing he'll show up in Ant-Man 3, along with proper AIM.

>How many times has the MCU tried to do MODOK

Three times. Once in AoS, once in an animated show where he would be voiced by Patton Oswald, and once in the scrapped New Warriors TV show where he would be played by Keith David.

You notice the pattern? They keep blocking him from being used on television properties because they want him in the movies.

That's fine, it's like not we needed to waste that stuff on a show people only watched to see if the Avengers would show up, and then general interest just dropped when it became clear that wasn't happening

And the funny thing? People's first exposure to him will probably be that Avengers game

The Patton Oswald show is still happening though.
The other shows got canned but this one is still going, judging by the fact the rest were canceled and I'm gonna have to assume the Modok show was too far in production

>and once in the scrapped New Warriors TV show where he would be played by Keith David

Wait, what? I thought he was playing a different character.

I'm okay with that. The game looks really boring, but at least it's treating MODOK like a genuine threat.

I mean he was in the Super Hero Squad Show, plus Iron Man Armored Adventures.

Right but the game is arguably a bigger demographic than those cartoons

I don't get why MODOK is so hard to write in the MCU. All they have to do is write him as a Trump like character,

Here’s your MCU MODOK bro

I think you're overestimating how many people will buy that boring looking game.
>b-but marble consoomers will buy anything!
Then why didn't Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite or Ultimate Alliance 3 break two million in sales?

It didn't have the same marketing

UA3 had decent sales.

I wonder if we'll ever see that New Warriors pilot.
Someone has to be able to sneak it out. We got that Emperor's New Groove production documentary.

Yeah, just decent. This was a game that came out a few months after Avengers Endgame and also featured Thanos and the Infinity Gems.

I dont get the love for MODOK and never will I still scratch my head that he made it into MVC3 all those years ago

It's a shame. If things had played out differently, I could have seen the Superior become Modok in season 5 or 6

The actor was pretty good too

It's so dumb, a character like that would be great for an animated show

Modok's the villain of the upcoming Avengers game.

Not Marvel TV but I know that Markus and Mcfeely were pushing for him in Cap 2. There's even an interview were they mentioned it.
Someone will leak it at one point and then we will see how horrible it was.

I saw that post, and the title of OP, and thought it was going to talk about how they were planning on having Coulson turn into MODOK.

And holy FUCK I want that.

>once in an animated show where he would be voiced by Patton Oswald,

What? MODOK has appeared in just about every animated Marvel series. They love putting him in.

Oh, you mean that Outsiders series that fell through. Patton's is a horrible choice anyway, just because he looks like Modok doesn't mean he sounds like him.

So given they were talking about going further than the 80s, and Envers dropping hints about the Avengers cop prior the season, it does seem like they had more plans that got scrapped because of time and the episode count, because it was a fantastic ending but unusually devoid of fanservice aside from Lola, Davis and everyone getting a happy ending, no cameos of any old characters, even that hint that they'd explain the timeline thing never happened

MODOK isn't a good character. What's the appeal, 90s fags? Apocalypse has no good stories, but at least he has a cool design.

>modok
>90s

Fuck off casual

>Oh, you mean that Outsiders series that fell through.
That didn't fall through they're still making it

He's popular because fo the 90s, user.
