I always assumed that the Joker turned out the way he did because he had underlying problems and a personality which allowed the transformation to take place the way it did.
Call me a racist or whatever you want but I've never seen a black criminal who doesn't take themselves real fucking serious and probably wouldn't end up wearing clown paint even ironically. It doesn't feel like it fits the character (and when you think mentally unstable black guy you usually think angry fucked up hobo grandpa under the overpass).

Almost ANY other villain could be black and it wouldn't change much. Two-face especially, Scarecrow easily, even Penguin or Riddler but the common thing about them is that it wouldn't matter if he was black, it wouldn't be central to who the character is. Whoever made the art in the OP made it specifically for one reason alone, to make Joker a black man, so that HAS to be important to the character somehow, otherwise why do it if he's just a colour swap of Mark Hamill's character?

They made him black for a reason, now I want to hear the justification and what makes the character good and interesting.
