Hello Zig Forums I come from /lit/, I want to get started on the Conan comics. I read the recent run (2019) made by Marvel but holy god it was utter shit and reads like a modern netflix show, I don't know if all the Conan comics are like this I've read many of R.E Howards work and I enjoyed them and want more from the Conan world.
There's the Dark Horse and the older Marvel runs each conatining a few hundred issues. Which one should I start with?
The main one was great, a secondary was alright Willing to flood the shelves marvel made 4+ current titles and as usual, it went bad

I remember reading the older marvel book a lot back in high school. I've not looked at it since really but it might be worth checking out.

look into european conan comics, they retail the classic short stories and also have amazing art.
Jose Gutierrez
How many are in English. I remember seeing one that looked cool but wasn't translated.
Jeremiah Bailey
Man I love the European comics problem is they take so long to get released in English. I’ve been waiting for a year for the Roman comics to come out in English and still no sign and Orcs and Goblins as well. Why are the French so anti English translations?
Dylan Williams
That’s like all comic runs, they just drag the shot out of anything same the moment it hits popularity. Like Spawn ducking hell should’ve just ended with Malebogia dead and that’s it.
Adrian Rogers
Let me tell the art does not hold up.
Brandon Gray
I dunno, I only remember conan from childhood but let me tell you, it's kinda epic.
You know, the story of a lonesome warrior is something that the West has in the domain of comic that the East can only do in the form of reference like in Berserk. If they knew what's good for them they would definitely try to perfect the genre.
Henry Barnes
I mean you say that but I think it's a pretty universal ideal.
start by reading Conan the Barbarian old run, then there''s The Savage sword of Conan after that. Then if you wish, read King Conan, and after that it's pretty much pick and go from whatever. I'd generally avoid the recent marvel Conan stuff, it's not great. Conan feels more like a parody of himself rather than the actual thing.
Aiden Walker
I could be wrong but I think it's a Western storytelling formula that Kurosawa first introduced to the Japanese. Before John Ford there hasn't been much of this sort of character in literature or anywhere.
Kevin Green
>Conan feels more like a parody of himself rather than the actual thing. You know when I first read proper Conan I honestly was surprised. I love the Arnie movie but Conan is far from the big wall of muscle portrayed therein.
Dude, mythology is loaded with this kind of shit.
Bentley Roberts
>Dude, mythology is loaded with this kind of shit. Yeah after I wrote the post I realized that mythology has some of that.
Bentley Myers
I just really want to see some good unironic adventure stories that aren't about spidnly little dweeby every mans.
