Cartoons (and even comics) should be socially acceptable, right?
Cartoons (and even comics) should be socially acceptable, right?
There's nothing wrong with liking cartoons
There's everything wrong with treating cartoons like they're a substitute for your personality
This extends beyond just cartoons though
No. Powerlevels should be suppressed, at the risk of ostracism. Being proud of having hobbies in public is cringe.
I mean I make it no secret with people I know. I won't bring it up out of the blue like it's the first thing that defines me but I'm confident enough to not hide it if someone asks what I've been watching lately.
this, there's nothing wrong with wanting to fuck cartoon characters
Adults who like children's cartoons are pedophiles. This is fact.
Sounds like you're an expert.
I'd say yes but the shear amount of autistic tirades I see hear on Zig Forums lead me to believe otherwise. A shame considering animation takes so much time, patience, and dedication to produce. It deserves fans with at least some of those qualities.
I mean just look at this board.
In theory there's no reason animation can't be used to tackle mature stories, imaginative and intricate worldbuilding, etc. In practice, it almost never is. I yearn for a day when Western animation tackles the breadth of subject matter anime does. People will get triggered at that statement but that's beause they have limited exposure to anime. But even if you hate anime, you must agree that at least we can do better. Right now all Western animation is assumed to fall into two categories, 1) children's cartoons 2) grossout shock humor adult family sitcoms (sometimes less shocking but still family sitcoms). There have been a handful recently that have broken the mold a bit, like Castlevania (love it or hate it at least it's allowed to color outside the lines a bit compared to other cartoons). But unfortunately these ape anime excessively instead of developing their own style. Personally I don't tell people I watch cartoons. If they notice it in my previously viewed shows I don't deny it but I'm not exactly proud of it.
It seems like that was something that could have happened with the normalization of cape shit and nerd culture / the spike in tabletop players but didn't, specifically for cartoons at most you can find a group you've known for a while and kinda ease in with lightly mentioning some normalfag anime too read the room before either bailing hard or seeing how far down the rabbit hole they are. I think there's a future where animation and graphic novels become more mainstream as an adult hobby, it's just a question if you want too deal with everything that may follow.
nobody cares if you like cartoons or animation, its just when you are in an obvious state of arrested development and infantile personality at 25 years old, thats what people dont want to be around.
They already are.
Chad can watch a cartoon and get away with it. Autistic nerds can play a guitar while drinking moors light and still be ostracized. It's less about what you do and more about how people perceive you.
You're free like whatever you like, but don't expect everyone in the world to be cool with it.
Are they not socially acceptable?
>Broke: Boomers and Hollywood never treat animation seriously
>Woke: The animation community never take animation seriously enough to elevate the medium and will forever be cursed to do the same shit over and over again like everyone has already assumed
No argument here
Depend on the people,i'm naturally secretive so i dont bring it up out of the blue
>"autistic" tirades bad
>animation takes so much time, patience, and >>>dedication
They are to consume. Hosever it still isn't socially acceptable to have arguments over waifus.
>Twitter thread
>Not even related to anyone in the industry
Immediately kill yourself.
This is not a choice.
It depends on how attractive you are.
I hate the miss use of pedophilia as a term, soon it will be as serious as being called autistic, which has turned from a medical term to just being over analytical.
Children who like adult cartoons are reverse-pedophiles. This is fact.
Depends how for whom. Of course, there are no cartoons like Dora explorer and similar children's educational research, just for adults. It is safe for small children. But cartoons, if they are for all ages, can certainly be watched by adults, but they should not behave childishly, as they do in many fandoms. It is really an exaggeration and it becomes a disease. For adults, they are definitely family sitcoms, there is no doubt about that.
The Twitter post wasn't the point of thr thread, the topic is.
I liked a lot of superhero cartoons (BTAS, JLU, GLTAS, A: EMH, etc.) but I haven't seen anything recently that I've really liked.
the "Deal with it" argument is so flimsy...
>socially acceptable
Considering modern society is a circus of hypocrisy and narcissism, I'm not sure why I should care what's "socially acceptable".
>There's everything wrong with treating cartoons like they're a substitute for your personality
Wtf is that supposed to mean?
Everything should be acceptable. The idea that you have to stop having fun when you're an adult is a holdover from the industrial revolution.
