This. Oscar only lied about "slaying" the shark to intimidate the jellyfish and avoid getting killed by them. After the jellyfish spread the news to the media, Oscar had no option than lie to everyone as well and accept the benefits. He never expected his lie would go that far, yet it gives him all the respect he always wanted. Once Angie confesses she already loved him beforehand, he starts setting things right

It's no more or less mediocre than other non Incredibles CG films from that era ( Shrek 2, Robots, Madagascar ) The only difference is that ST actually had some substance, whereas the other ones i mentioned were shallow as a puddle

It's Shark Tale's only good moment. Emotions are high, truth finally comes out, and the animation works this one time in conveying the feelings of the characters. It's a good personal moment between unrequited love and protag that leaves him alone with the fame and glamour gained by his lie feeling totally hollow. Flik and Rango were too crowded with disappointment on a larger scale but less personal while RJ's lie happened so fast they have no time to react, the sting happening distantly as RJ sees them captured and fearful. Oscar is also the reversal as he's left alone once the partying ends while the others do a walk of shame leaving their let down populance behind which isn't as impactful imo. Shark Tale's drama came out of nowhere on a deeper level in what otherwise was a gaudy kids film and worth giving credit where it's due.

Absolutely based. I love the contrast between these 2 scenes. Oscar goes from being happy with his new life and getting everything he wanted, only to realize not long after that he's both unfulfilled and lonely ( Lola doesn't love him and he ain't friends with no one in that party )

Shark tale did have the Lenny and Lino subplot, which wasn't a liar revealed story ( yet it still connected perfectly with Oscar's story, since the moral was the same in both of them )

I love the ending. Oscar dancing with Angie atop the Whale Wash sign and finally finding happiness is a great way to finish. No sequel bait or loose ends either ( looking at you, Madagascar and Shrek 2 )
