does this kind of shit even work anymore?
Does this kind of shit even work anymore?
Not really.
Marvel is such cancer...
Nobody cares about covers cares only with good stories great art and an extra portion of cheesecake
This is 90’s era marketing bullshit that’s only effective in a heavy speculative market. It’s been passé for a long time and is downright moronic these days.
I was just saying yesterday that it has been a while since Marlel did something stupid and here there are.
Except I'm pretty sure these tactics still work. 40 Variants across all titles, or 40 Variants for # 1? Either way, it's ridiculous.
This shit only worked for Black Cat, for obvious reasons. Nobody cares about The Eternals anyway
Does anyone remember how many variants Bendis' first issue of Invincible Iron Man had?
Oh yeah sure when Marvel does it it's bad
When EVS Does it you suck cock
did it work in his case?
But they’re Disney’s next big movie push, so they have to be made to care about the Eternals, who are now 30% more progressive to appeal to you !
Sure as hell didn’t help Carol’s book, or Doctor Strange’s
user Carol's book launched at #1 and has been one of Marvel's top sellers ever since.
Yes, otherwise why would they do it?
I personally am going to buy the best 7 or 8 of these for the heroes I like and cut off the covers to put them in my binders, and have one sealed copy. I won't even bother reading the comic before I put it in the garbage, I just want the art.
indeed, Makkari is now a black woman, just like in the movie!
but it's not like anybody gave a shit about Makkari before
>Nearly 40
I don't believe you. Post them all
Variant covers won't fucking save you if the writing and interior art is garbage.
At least they still make comics unlike the DC Universe Comic Kingdom.
I thought Kumail was playing Marrkarii fuck it I can’t spell that right
I also don't know anything about comic characters until Hollywood shovels their version of them in front of me, fellow casual.

More than the fucking variants, what really bothers me is when the interior art doesn't match with the cover art. That's the main reason why casuals buy one or two comics and then never return. Why cant you be more like french comics or manga.
Marvel desperation tactic #3:
Trick fags with pretty pictures.
>be into comics
>never read any marvel or dc
>go into local conventions to scoop obscure albums oldfags were about to throw into the trash or buy local comics that have single runs
>get handed an iron man comic during the free comic book day con
>cowboy iron man variant cover
>so hyped for cowboy iron man that i wait to get home to read it to really take it in
>it's a pepper nags tony for a new rescue armor episode
I'm still angry bout that.
Yes. I know a lot of LCS owners. It isn't targeted at you. it isn't targeted at a person who buys one variant they like. It is targeted at whales. There is STILL a huge speculator/collector market going on out there. Look at what happened with Punchline (Joker's new girlfriend). She was hyped up, the price of the issue was inflated (sometimes going up to 50- 100 pounds) and then more print runs happened and it steadily went down. Variants are still big business. Whales will buy every variant even if the actual comic isn't good. For some it is a collector OCD mentality. For others it is a speculator, money making scheme. But they sell, which is why they keep doing it.
That’s when the snobs attack you, because the art, like, doesn’t matter, man. It’s about the story. If you want pictures go read a babby picture book.
>Does variant of "X" works?
Yeah, that's why everyone keeps printing them. Heck even trading cards games have them, do you seriously think companies wouldn't make them if they weren't profitable?
her book was consistently floating around #50 in the top 300 list outside of a weird spike in March, but we don't have data after that. Hardly one of Marvel's top sellers.
people still really like Ribic's art and Gillen is a big enough name to pull sales.
Okay I believe you now
What the fuck
>There is STILL a huge speculator/collector market going on out there.
I find that kind of shocking, actually. Comic sales aren’t all that great in general. If DC and Marvel weren’t owned by huge corporations it’s questionable they could operate as they do and still be profitable (even then, they made more money off licensing than actual floppies.) Being parts of big corporations I don’t see how there could possibly be enough whales for it to make even the slightest blip on revenues to be worth chasing.
