Remember that one time in which the brit Flushed Away director tried making a Tezuka adaptation in Hong Kong ? Why is it so ignored by Zig Forums and the animation community ?

Commie robot trio was kinda funny. Those Lenin and Trotsky posters were a great touch
>Why is it so ignored by Zig Forums and the animation community ?
Western animation fans ignore it because they don't care about Astro Boy, and weebs ignore it because it wasn't made by the japanese.
Yet the major people behind it were Zig Forums folks ( director worked on Roger Rabbit and Ferngully ) Only the animators were Hong Kong people, so it ain't 100% foreign
Disagree. I think its ignored because its mediocre. When something medicore is made out of something thats is clasic and beloved its just sad to see, like the Smurfs or Asterix movies.
I think western animation fans have some love for tezuka's stuff. Specially fans of classic animation. I heard Genndy talking about it in a recent interview, but he worked on this movie so i guess he is biased.
>Futuristic city with japanese touches
>Character dies early on and all that remains is his cap
>Female character with black and purple hair
Why did Big Hero 6 have so many similarities with this movie ? Even Baymax looks like pic related
>mediocre
It's a 6/10, almost bordering on 7. For a theatrical manga adaptation, that's pretty good. Reminder that DB Evolution came out that same year
Pulp Fiction reference gave me a good laugh, mainly because of how random it was ( the film doesn't rely on pop culture references )
Production on it was a mess. They announced it in 2001, and went through plenty of directors, distributors and rewrites. All things considered, the end result wasn't that bad for such a troubled development
Megaman ripped off Astroboy but for real
So weird to hear Kristen Bell in a pre Frozen Zig Forums film. This was 4 years before her big breakthrough
>but for real
>For a theatrical manga adaptation, that's pretty good.
Metropolis was paradoxically a terrible manga adaptation and a great film.
honestly i wish Nicolas Cage did more voice work,
Probably one of the fucked up deaths in Zig Forums's history, and it happens less than 15 mins in

>ZOG
Bros... What is this movie...
Main villain was a Bush parody who wanted to declare war to get reelected, plus was a big fan of the color red...
They actually got Samuel Jackson to play the ZOG character, despite it having like 3 lines in total
Because it was essentially Astro Boy but with absolutely none of the cool stuff from Astro Boy in it
>no Blue Knight
>no Atlas
>no Pluto
Instead it just had like a dozen shitty OC characters that all function as unfunny comic relief and a REALLY shit villain.
The villain was indeed shit, despite being almost funny because of how unsubtle it is. Didn't mind the other characters tho. Besides, how would you introduce all of those villains in a 80 mins origin story ? Kinda hard
Still, i don't think it's that bad of a film. Certainly not deserving of being such a flop. Wouldn't mind to see David Bowers direct another Zig Forums film. Neither this or Flushed Away were great, but i had a good time
So is this the first tankie animated film?
Just pick one and do it really well. Just literally do a "Greatest Robot" adaptation. Astro's origin story is kind of a bummer for most kid's anyway and you could just let us get a blurb of it when Pluto is getting a run down of his kill-list
Did you miss a part of history about a little nation that used to exist called the USSR?
I actually never really knew what the deal with Astro Boy was, so the boy getting vaporized and the dad building a robot to replace him was pretty shocking.
I mean, for a western kid's movie it's pretty dark. I expected some fake out where Toby would come back, but no. He dead.
Tankie refers to hardcore commie larpers though.
It was just VERY average, like...it had no impact. I saw it when it was on Netflix last year and nothing made it stood out.
Fair enough. I did appreciate how timeless the humor was, despite being childlish at times. Director made it more comedic than source material, yet he avoided pop culture humor, innuendo or pop songs
Imagi did care tho. This wasn't a soulless cash grab like Evolution or Netflix Death Note. It's kinda like Speed Racer ( very flawed, but the heart was definitely there ) youtube.com
Pretty neat how the poster is an homage to the 2003 show, including the villain extending his hand towards Astro
I remember rolling my eyes at the trailer when it played "machine guns in his butt" as a joke, but then went on to discover Astro Boy actually has machine guns in his ass. The whole film felt well researched, but the last time I watched it was maybe 9 years ago.
Both this film and TMNT definitely felt well researched. Imagi's fall from grace was tragic screenz.co.nz
