Fake American anime

Japanese cartoons and comics are plagued by a few problems:
>Rewards mediocrity
Every identifiable trait of anime which has a selling point has a name. Normal person taken from our world and dumped into a fantasy one? Iseakai. Girl who acts rude, callous, possibly abusive to a guy she likes? Tsundere. Unmarried woman in her twenties with massive breasts existing around young boys? Onee-san.
It doesn't stop there. Themes and plots that are the latest hot thing spawn knock-offs for months. If those knock-offs do well, there is another popularity wave of knock-offs. Anything that doesn't do fantastically is disregarded. If some years have passed and it reaches cult status, a manga might get an adaptation, but an anime might get a reboot that looks horrible compared to the original.

>Japanese work ethic
Most studios are based in Tokyo, the most expensive city in the world to live in. Thanks to Japanese work ethic, you are expected to show up for work every morning, which means working remotely is out of the question. Animators are paid fuck-all so a lot of these animators have to put in serious overtime just to scrape enough money together to pay the rent and feed themselves. Of course, they aren't going to complain to senpai or sensei because what your superiors say goes in Japanese culture.

>Corporate bureaucracy
The corporate side of most studios found they could pay their animators less for more output if they paid them frame-by-frame rather than a fixed salary. Cue a massive decline in quality from the more popular anime (popularity means that the audience will watch any way), and the exacerbation of previous problems because that is how money is made.

It's a wonder the whole industry over there doesn't collapse in on itself.

True. The metric for success of western cartoons is how much merch sells. Zoomers and Gen A grew up with screens and aren't so interested in buying the products of something they watched three or four times growing up just because it was on TV or next on the auto-play queue.
