Early Adult Swim influenced the fuck out of early Abridged Series. Go back and watch early episodes of DBZ abridged or Yu Gi Oh abridged and you'll be shocked at how many Adult Swim references there are. That being said Sealab 2021 wasn't really an abridged series in and of itself, as it never attempted to cover the plots or stories of the original series, so much as it significantly influenced the humor of actual abridged series.

What isn't entirely wrong, you can see a lot of AS style in several of the most well known abridged series, and even things like the Ments, namely the ones Purpleeyeswtf created. It's especially noticeable with his content from the bumpers with white text on black backgrounds, the wide selection of musical choices, and even using a Meatwad-like voice in one of his works.
