I have been teaching myself the basics of Animation over the last few months and just finished my fist short animation.

Id love to get some opinions on it and how I can improve, also any software suggestions as I am currently using Krita
I have been teaching myself the basics of Animation over the last few months and just finished my fist short animation
Ill post some of the backgrounds and assets I made for it
Oops wrong file, that was from a different project
This one I am really happy with how it turned out
Not bad. Good lineart and animation, although the perspective and camera work could do some work.
Pretty good stuff for a first timer!
Thanks :) Yeah I tried to do a bit of a perspective for the 3rd scene but couldn't make it look right with movement so I kinda skimped rather than trying to learn but I will definitely practice drawing with perspective before my next animation!
Thanks I appreciate it, really had fun experimenting around to figure out how to make the movement look okay, still have a lot of work to do but I learned a lot as I went lol. I think the movement on the pupils I got to work decently but I really struggled with in between frames for limbs and stuff.
That was fun. Not sure what it actually represented, but it was nice first short.
Couldn't tell how much of that drag/ stretched effect to use since I wanted it to not look choppy but I dont think I have figured that out yet. maybe I should have animated in more than 12fps but with krita needing you to do every frame I think I will probably need to switch software.
You've got a strong grasp of surrealism. You need to work on your transitions so that each scene feels different - Scott McCloud can help you with that. As it is it feels like a very artistic newgrounds project. And find some better audio sources.
What software did you make it with?
Personally the only thing I didn't like about this was the audio. The SFX were distracting and should have either been removed or mixed down lower so the music is dominant.
Otherwise I really enjoyed your work. If you want a take on a similar theme try MTV Downtown's episode on Insomnia
Kinda trying to represent the horror present in Christianity. its about a christian who is going insane in his appt and he is having religious visions and delusions of biblical events (specifically of Ezekiel's vision on the river) before finally seeing Angels in front of him. either because he has lost his mind or because god is speaking to him in the same way as Ezekiel.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, I hadn't heard of him but you're right I do need some work on that. And thanks, I'm glad you feel I achieved the surrealism properly.
I used krita to do the animation and then edited it in ShotCut to Finnish it all up. I don't think krita was the best choice for animation tho, got any better suggestions?
I also feel like I need some help on colour theory but not sure where to find a good guide
Yeah I posted it on Reddit, whats wrong with promoting your content. At least I aint one of those guys who lies and says "My friend made this" Lol
Sorry I was replying to some guy who posted screen shots of my Reddit posts about this video, but I guess he deleted his post for some reason
Yeah you are probably right about that, most of the SFX I recorded myself so I was proud of them and wanted them to be noticeable but its probably better if you arn't too aware of them.
Probably realized it was a stupid thing for him to complain about...
I appreciate when angels are drawn as their canonical cosmic horror selves.
Thanks! I tried to do them justice but I think maybe if I took some time on each one individually the effect would have worked better, maybe some close up shots of each first or something idk
They also might make a little more impact if there was something else in the shot or in the way they approach to make their size more apparent, assuming they're larger than the protagonist.
"Birds for scale," and all that.
That's a really good idea! Thanks so much
FEAR NOT
Clouds could also work to show scale! Bloodborne does something similar in which clouds float behind the Hunter's Dream's Moon.
Really loved your more close-up animation btw OP
Very Owen Cyclops-esque. Check out his stiff if you haven't already.
